EASY MIXED BERRY COMPOTE (10-MINUTE RECIPE)

Steps:
- In a medium saucepan, add the berries and lemon juice and heat over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat slightly and heat for 2-3 more minutes. Occasionally press the berries, so they release more of their juices (though there's no need to mash them fully).
- Add the maple syrup (or sweetener of your choice) towards the end of the cooking time and stir well. Feel free to adjust the amount of lemon juice/sweetener at any time.
- Remove from the heat and either serve the fruit compote immediately or allow to cool and use later.

- Make compote:
- Combine berries in a large bowl. Heat wine, crème de cassis, and sugar in a small heavy saucepan, stirring, until sugar is dissolved, then pour over berries. Toss gently and let stand 10 minutes.
- Fry won ton strips while compote is standing:
- Heat 1/2 inch oil in a heavy skillet over moderate heat until a won ton strip sizzles when added. Fry strips in 2 or 3 batches, stirring gently with a slotted spoon, until golden, about 30 seconds. Drain on paper towels.
- Top compote with ice cream, then won ton strips.

- In a small bowl, mix sugar, cornstarch and water until smooth. Transfer to a greased 3-qt. slow cooker. Stir in cherries and blueberries. In a large bowl, combine brown sugar, walnuts, flour, almonds, oats, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over fruit mixture., Cook, covered, on high about 3 hours, until bubbly and thickened. If desired, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
