Virginia's Refreshing Geranium Tea Cooler image

A refreshing & delicious herbal and tea blend to sip on a warm day, or just while visiting with your special friend. This recipe was passed along from my friend Virginia Murphy of the Orange County Herb Society. Virginia is a lovely lady who also runs The Herboretum Herb Farm here in the Temecula Valley Wine Country. She grows and sells a nice selection of herbs, scented-geraniums, and other herbaceous plants. A great place to visit if you are in the area!

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 rose-scented geranium leaves
3 peppermint-scented variety geranium leaves (or regular mint leaves)
1 geranium leaf, for garnish
6 whole cloves
2 tea bags
1 pinch salt (not enough to taste)
honey or sugar, to taste

Steps:

  • Pour 1/2 pint of boiling water over all ingredients; cover and infuse for five minutes.
  • Sweeten to taste, perhaps with honey.
  • Strain, cool and chill; serve over crushed ice with a leaf in each glass.

1 rose-scented geranium leaf
6 whole cloves
2 tea bags
1 pinch salt, not enough to taste
sugar, to sweeten

Steps:

  • Pour 1 cup boiling water over all the ingredients, cover for five minutes.
  • Sweeten to taste.
  • Strain, cool and chill, and serve over crushed ice.
  • Garnish with leaf in each glass.

Simple and refreshing... I like to garnish the glasses with big chunks of fresh pineapple and some cherries. I guess you could fancy it up adding some vodka and limoncello... Cooking time is chilling time!

4 black tea bags (i used a breakfast blend)
2 cups boiling water
3 tablespoons raw sugar
3 cups pineapple juice
2 lemons, juice of

Steps:

  • Steep the tea in the boiling water for 10 minutes, with the sugar.
  • Remove bags.
  • Put in a pitcher.
  • Add the remaining ingredients.
  • Let chill in the fridge until cold.
  • Serve in frosted glasses!

CHAMOMILE COOLER

Chamomile and lemon-flavored herbs create a delicate, delightful tea. We used lemon verbena, which lends a pleasantly sweet flavor for a refreshing and light tea.

1/2 cup dried chamomile flowers
2 tablespoons dried lemon verbena leaves
1/3 cup raw honey

Steps:

  • In a large pot bring 6 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Remove pot from heat and stir in the chamomile and lemon verbena. Cover and steep for 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, place a large strainer lined with cheesecloth or a damp paper towel over another pot or heat-proof bowl. Strain tea, pressing on the herbs to extract all liquid. Stir in honey until it dissolves, and let the tea cool completely, about 1 hour. Fill four tall glasses with ice. Pour tea over ice and serve immediately.

1 tablespoon loose black tea
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1 (28 ounce) bottle carbonated lemon-lime beverage or 1 (28 ounce) bottle ginger ale, chilled
3/4-1 cup sugar
12 ice cubes
1/2 cup fresh orange juice

Steps:

  • Place tea bags or loose tea in bowl.
  • Pour boiling water over tea.
  • Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Remove bags or strain to remove leaves.
  • Add sugar and stir until all is dissolved.
  • Plae ice cubes in 2-quart serving pitcher.
  • Pour hot tea, lemon and orange juice over tea.
  • Stir briskly several seconds until mixture is cold.
  • Stir in chilled lemon-lime carbonated beverage.
  • Pour into glasses and serve at once.
