From Family Fun. It looks like a big slice of watermelon! I will try once we get the ingredients. Who knows, maybe it will make me a lover of honeydew! They don't give amounts for the sorbet, so I'm guessing on that.

1 honeydew
1 pint raspberry sorbet
chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Halve the honeydew, discard the seeds, and chill it overnight in the fridge.
  • The next day, put the halves in the freezer for 15 minutes, pull them out, and pack them with sorbet, gently evening off the top.
  • Using a chilled knife, slice each half into halves again (make sure the melon is sorbet side up).
  • Finally, insert a row of chocolate chip seeds and serve immediately.

Spritz are a Christmas staple in my family. We have tried lots of different recipes and this is a modified recipe from our top 3 favorites.

Yield 4-6 dozen, 48-72 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup unsalted butter (no substitutes!)
1 cup confectioners' sugar
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 cups flour

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Mix dry ingredients and set aside.
  • Cream butter, mix in powdered sugar.
  • Add egg yolks, vanilla, and almond extract.
  • Gradually beat in flour mixture.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use a cookie press and decorate with colored sugar. Bake for 5 minutes and allow to cool for 2-3 on the sheet before transferring to wax paper or wire rack. I usually use two baking sheets so the one I am using isn't too warm or it will start to melt the dough and you'll have trouble with the press.

These cookies really do melt in your mouth, and they're just as good without the pecans if you don't have them to hand.

2 cups butter, softened
1 cup icing sugar
2 tablespoons water
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups chopped nuts (pecans are good)

Steps:

  • Cream butter and sugar together.
  • Add water and vanilla to the mixture.
  • Gradually add flour, fold in nuts.
  • Roll dough into 1 inch balls.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheets and flatten with fingers.
  • Bake at 300 F for 20-25 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack.

This recipe is anything but regular old meatloaf! Everyone will love this moist version made in the slow cooker, with milk, mushrooms, and a little sage for extra flavor.

2 eggs
¾ cup milk
⅔ cup seasoned bread crumbs
2 teaspoons dried minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon rubbed sage
½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1 ½ pounds ground beef
¼ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground mustard
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Combine eggs, milk, bread crumbs, onion, salt, sage, and mushrooms in a large bowl. Crumble ground beef over mixture and stir well to combine. Shape into a round loaf; place in a 5-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees F (71 degrees C), 5 to 6 hours.
  • Whisk ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl; spoon sauce over meat loaf. Return to slow cooker and cook on Low until heated through, about 15 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
