Kielbasa with Mustard Dip image

Provided by Ina Garten

Categories     appetizer

Time 15m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/4 pounds smoked kielbasa (Polish sausage)
Good olive oil
1/2 cup good mayonnaise, such as Hellmann's
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon whole-grain mustard
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Slice the kielbasa crosswise 1/2 inch thick diagonally. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a medium (10 to 11-inch) sauté pan, add the kielbasa, and cook over medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes, turning occasionally, until the kielbasa is nicely browned on both sides.
  • Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard, horseradish, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Serve the kielbasa hot from the pan with small wooden skewers and a dish of the mustard sauce on the side for dipping.

  • Recipe Binder. A recipe binder is a wonderful way to organize your recipes. You can organize by type of dish or alphabetically or any way that makes sense to you.
  • Recipe Box. This recipe organization idea is a classic, and you can never go wrong with a classic. Recipe boxes are pretty cheap and easy to find. You can find one at almost any store (Walmart, Target, sometimes even the dollar store) or you can even find a recipe box online.
  • Recipe journal. Recipe journals are a new recipe organization method that I've been trying to organize the recipes that I share here, and I really love it.
  • Binder Rings. If you're looking for a super duper simple and frugal way to organize all of your recipes, consider a binder ring. You can write all of your recipes on index cards or recipe cards (you can grab my free printable recipe cards HERE), then hole punch the corners and stick a binder ring through it all.
  • Shutterfly. In the opposite direction, if you're looking for a beautiful high-end option, you can make a recipe book or cookbook on Shutterfly. I personally wouldn't use it for my recipes that I just want to try.

  • Download a Recipe Organizer App. If you find most of your recipes online, download an app like Recipe Keeper to make saving and locating them much easier.
  • Mark the Page. The next time you're browsing cookbooks and see an enticing recipe, slip on a Book Dart ($10 for 100, bookdarts.com). Made of paper-thin metal, it does the job attractively and won't fall off, wrinkle the page, or leave a mark.
  • Create a Filing System. If you tend to save recipes from magazines as well as handwritten recipe cards, sort them into a three-ring binder. Use tab dividers and plastic page protectors for both full sheets (for pages from a magazine) and divided sheets (for 3-by-5-inch recipe cards).
  • Make a Kitchen Nook for Cookbooks. Nothing personalizes a kitchen like a row of cookbooks arranged on a shelf or in a hutch. Keep a chair or a stool nearby so you have a place to sit and peruse.
  • Keep Recipes and Toss Books. No matter how much you love a book, you probably use only a handful of its recipes, so why not scan the ones you love, then donate the book?
