HOT ONION RINGS

Hot Onion Rings image

What's better than a big platter of blazing-hot onion rings? We can't think of a thing. For best results, use sweet onions like Vidalia or Walla Walla in this recipe. The sweetness of the onions pairs well with the spice of the cayenne.

Provided by The New York Times

Categories     vegetables, appetizer, side dish

Time 10m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup beer
2 eggs
Generous pinch of cayenne, plus more to taste
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Dash of Worcestershire sauce
1 to 2 quarts peanut or canola oil for frying
3 large sweet onions, approximately 1 1/2 pounds, peeled and sliced thinly into rings

Steps:

  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, beer, eggs, pepper, salt and Worcestershire sauce. In a deep-fryer or in a large heavy pot, heat the oil. It should be at least 3 inches deep, but more is better. When the oil is hot, drop in a teaspoon of batter to be sure it sizzles.
  • Gently drop the rings into batter and cook until nicely browned on all sides, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove using a slotted spoon or spider strainer. Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with salt and serve immediately.

HOT AND TASTY ONION RINGS

Hot and Tasty Onion Rings image

Here is how to make a terrific appetizer of Hot and Tasty Onion Rings. These are served with Betty's Surfin' Seafood Cocktail Sauce or ketchup.

Provided by ladybugplus

Categories     Appetizers

Time 30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup self-rising flour
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup Milk
1/4 cup Vegetable oil
onions washed and sliced into rings
2 inches cooking oil in deep fryer or pot on stove (I used peanut oil.)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup self-rising flour, 1 well-beaten egg, 1 cup milk, and 1/4 cup vegetable oil. Stir completely, or blend with an electric mixer. Have your raw onion rings prepared for cooking. Heat 2 inches of oil in an electric deep fryer or a pot on the stove to somewhere between 345 degrees and 375 degrees. With tongs, dip onion rings in batter, allowing excess batter to drip into bowl, and then transfer to hot oil. You may fry several onion rings at the same time. Fry until golden brown on both sides, and then remove with tongs or other utensil and place on paper toweling to drain. When all onion rings are fried and removed, pat the upper side to remove any further excess oil. Now, place the Onion Rings on a nice serving dish, and serve with Surfin' Seafood Cocktail Sauce. Enjoy!!!

FRIED ONION RINGS

Fried Onion Rings image

These are very delicate and the best I have had. My ex was a fanatic when it came to onion rings, and thought this recipe to be the best he ever had. Have also made other veggies in this batter. Can be refrigerated or frozen, then reheated in oven or microwave. Carbonated water can be substituted for beer in this recipe.

AIR-FRIED ONION RINGS

Air-Fried Onion Rings image

Onion rings battered, breaded, and then fried to crispy perfection. What's best: because they are air fried, they are better for you than their deep-fried counterparts!

Provided by Chef Wheeler del Torro

Categories     Appetizers and Snacks

Time 22m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 11

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 large onion, cut into rings
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup bread crumbs
cooking spray
2 pinches garlic powder
2 pinches paprika

Steps:

  • Stir flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt together in a small bowl. Dip onion rings into the flour mixture until coated; set aside.
  • Whisk milk and egg into the flour mixture using a fork. Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat. Place on a wire rack to drain until the batter stops dripping.
  • Place bread crumbs in a shallow dish. Place rings one at a time into the crumbs and scoop the crumbs over the rings to coat evenly. Give rings a hard tap as you remove them from the crumbs; the coating should cling very well. Repeat with remaining rings.
  • Heat an air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Place rings side by side in the frying basket. Spray lightly with cooking spray. Flip rings and place basket in the air fryer. Cook until rings are golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip once halfway through. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with garlic powder and paprika.
