HOLIDAY CUTOUT COOKIES

Steps:
- In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, milk and extracts. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into creamed mixture. Divide dough into four portions. Shape each into a disk; wrap in plastic. Refrigerate, covered, overnight or until firm enough to roll., Preheat oven to 400°. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut with floured 3-in. holiday cookie cutters. Place 1 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets., Bake until edges are lightly brown, 5-7 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool completely., In a large bowl, beat confectioners' sugar, vanilla and enough cream to reach a spreading consistency. If desired, beat in food coloring. Frost and decorate cookies as desired.

DECORATED CHRISTMAS CUTOUT COOKIES

- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Chill until firm, 1 hour. , On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-in thickness. Cut out with Christmas cookie cutters of your choice. Using a floured spatula, transfer cookies to greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° until lightly browned, 8-10 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks., Decorate cookies with frosting and colored sugars.

These are wonderfully crisp cookies that are so tasty, they need no icing. However, you can add a butter cream frosting if you want decorated cookies. Haven't made these this year yet, so yield is an estimate (Can change according to size of cookie cutter used). Original recipe from Parents magazine.

Steps:
- Beat together butter, sugar and vanilla for one minute at medium speed of mixer.
- Add flour and baking powder.
- Chill dough.
- Roll dough between two pieces of wax paper to 3/8" thick.
- Cut into shapes.
- Place 1" apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
- Bake at 375° until lightly browned.
- (Instructions gave no baking time so watch first batch carefully and time it for future batches).

EASY HOLIDAY CUTOUT COOKIES
Take a shortcut to a classic rolled sugar cookie by using a sweet and easy cookie mix.

- Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix, flour, softened butter and egg until soft dough forms. Roll dough on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden brown around edges. Cool 1 minute before removing from cookie sheet; cool completely.
- Spread frosting on cooled cookies. Decorate as desired with remaining ingredients.

This is been a recipe and a tradition that has been in my family for years since i was a kid. Alot of fun and good cookies.

- 1. Combine sugar, sour cream, eggs, butter, and shortening. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
- 2. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla, and salt. Mix well until soft dough forms cover and chill 1-2 hours.
- 3. Heat oven to 350 roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick press out cookies and place on ungreased cookie sheet bake 6-8 minutes or until just lightly golden brown. Cool on rack when completely cool frostin the cookies. Very fun and very good enjoy.
