Traditional savory dish, great with roast pork or pork chops. Chilled with some added bacon bits, it makes a great summer BBQ salad.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter
1 red onion, chopped
4 tart apples, cored and chopped
salt to taste

Steps:

Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat until the foam subsides. Cook and stir the onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the apples, and cook and stir until the onion and apples are starting to brown and the apples are soft, about 10 more minutes. Sprinkle on salt to taste.

In a bowl combine flour, eggs, sugar, a pinch of salt and milk and whisk to a smooth cream. Next peel the apples, cut into rings and remove the core. Then mix cinnamon and sugar together. If you have an empty seasoning bottle, just fill it with your cinnamon sugar.
Heat butter or sunflower oil in a skillet at medium low heat. Using a spoon, dip the apple rings in the batter and fry them on both sides, until light golden brown. Remove from the skillet and place the fried apple rings on a plate and sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar immediately. Repeat the process until you have used up the apple rings and batter.
