3 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon white sugar
2 tablespoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic

Steps:

  • Place the green beans in a large saucepan or pot with one inch of water. You may place them in a steamer insert if you have one. Bring to a boil, cover and cook for 5 minutes, they should still be firm and bright green. In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, balsamic vinegar and sugar; set aside. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and cook until starting to brown. Add the green beans and stir to coat with the oil. Stir in the soy sauce mixture and simmer for a couple of minutes uncovered to reduce the sauce. Transfer the beans to a serving dish and pour the sauce over them

PAN FRIED GREEN BEANS

Pan Fried Green Beans image

These green beans were the side dish my grandmother served most often because we all love them. They are done but not mushy like canned beans.

Provided by Shearyah Hawkins

Categories     Side Dish     Vegetables     Green Beans

Time 30m

Yield 5

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 ½ pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
garlic powder to taste
onion powder to taste
salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • In a stainless steel pot over medium-high heat, combine green beans, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook, covered, until the beans begin to sweat. Remove lid and stir occasionally until beans are tender.
  • When the beans and spices have begun to 'burn' on the bottom of the pan, which will lend a grilled flavor, stir in the olive oil and turn off heat. Cover, and let stand a few minutes. Scrape the bottom of the pan to incorporate the 'burnt' spices. Beans should have a dark, caramel color, but not black.

DAD'S GREEN BEANS

Dad's Green Beans image

This was a favorite recipe that my Dad always made for family dinners and especially Thanksgiving and Christmas traditionally. I am making sure it gets carried on by the family.

Provided by Charin Buchan

Categories     Other Main Dishes

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3-4 lb fresh, frozen or canned green beans (not french style)
1 medium yellow cooking onion
1 c chopped salt pork, bacon or ham pieces
1 lb baby red potatoes or quartered med. red potatoes
1 Tbsp cooking oil or bacon grease
1 tsp lawry's seasoning salt
1 tsp black pepper

Steps:

  • 1. sauté onions, oil, and meat for 3-4 minutes then add the remaining ingredients and combine together.
  • 2. cover and bring to the point of steam escaping over medium heat. Turn heat to simmer for 20 minutes. During this time do not peek. NOTE: This method is only one type you can use. You can also just cook it all together over medium heat with no lid. I use waterless cookware and this method is the easiest for that style. You do not need to add any liquid in either method of cooking.
