These adorable treats will be an especially popular gift for families with kids. Give in a small box nestled in holiday-colored chocolate candies.

Provided by Midwest Living

Categories     Food

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 12 ounce package semisweet chocolate pieces
1 10 ounce jar maraschino cherries with stems, drained and patted dry
36 milk chocolate kisses with stripes
Sliced almonds

Steps:

  • Place chocolate pieces in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on 100 percent power (high) for 1 minute or until chocolate is melted, stirring twice.
  • Hold cherries by the stem and dip, one at a time, in melted chocolate to coat. Place coated cherries on a large baking sheet. Immediately press the flat bottom of a kiss up against the cherry (forming mouse head). Insert two almond slices between head and body to form ears. Use a toothpick dipped in remaining melted chocolate to make eyes. If you like, dot some of the melted chocolate on tip of kiss for nose. (Or, place remaining melted chocolate in a resealable plastic bag; seal. Snip off a very small piece of one corner and pipe on eyes and nose). Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator and let chill for 15 minutes or until chocolate is set. Use a small flat metal spatula or table knife to help remove mice from baking sheet.
  • Store mice in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Makes about 36 mice.

PEANUT BUTTER CHRISTMAS MICE

Peanut Butter Christmas Mice image

I have made these since 1989. They are always a hit when I make them for my son's class.

Provided by Paula

Categories     Desserts     Cookies

Time 1h40m

Yield 60

Number Of Ingredients 11

½ cup butter, room temperature
1 cup creamy peanut butter
½ cup packed light brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup peanut halves
¼ cup green candy sprinkles
60 3-inch pieces red shoestring licorice

Steps:

  • In a large bowl combine butter and peanut butter; beat until creamy. Add brown and white sugar and beat until fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla extract and baking soda until well blended. With mixer on low, mix in flour just until blended. Cover and chill for 1 hour, or until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Shape 1 level tablespoon of dough into 1 inch balls. Taper each ball at one end into a teardrop shape. Press flat on one side. Place flat sides down, 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Press the sides of the dough in to raise the 'backs' of the mice, as dough will spread slightly during baking.
  • Gently push 2 peanut halves in each 'mouse' for ears, and 2 pieces of green candy for eyes. With a toothpick make a hole 1/2 inch deep in the tail ends.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until firm.
  • Transfer to a cooling rack and insert licorice pieces as tails.

MICE

Mice image

Kids love them. I did growing up -- my mom use to make these around Christmas time, but great for anytime! You can make as many as you want. They are great to look at.

Provided by lovemykids

Categories     Desserts     Chocolate Dessert Recipes     Milk Chocolate

Time 1h15m

Yield 20

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces chocolate confectioners' coating
20 red maraschino cherries with stems
3 tablespoons blanched slivered almonds
20 milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped
40 small red decorating candies (dragees)

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Chop the confectioners' coating into chunks, and place into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat the coating in the microwave oven on High for 30 seconds; then heat again 4 or 5 more times for 10 to 15 seconds each time until the coating is warm (not hot) and melted. Stir well until the chocolate coating is smooth and free of lumps. The coating should be about 95 degrees F (35 degrees C).
  • Dry the cherries well with paper towels. Holding each cherry by the stem, dip it into the chocolate coating to just reach the bottom of the stem. Carefully lay the cherry on its side, so the stem sticks out the side. This will be the tail. Before the coating sets up, stick the flat side of an unwrapped chocolate kiss opposite the tail, to make a pointy-nosed face. Pick out two nicely shaped slivers of almond, and insert them between the chocolate kiss and the dipped cherry to make little ears. Use a toothpick to make two small dots of melted coating on the face for eyes; stick two little red candies to the coating dots. Repeat with the rest of the cherries. Allow the coating to set until firm and cool, about 30 minutes.

CHRISTMAS COCONUT MICE

  • Line a baking sheet with plastic wrap. Press the mixture into the tablespoon and level it. Now turn the spoon over and tap it, so that the mixture will come out onto the plastic wrap.
