This baked pears recipe is very versatile. You can serve it warm or cold and for any size group. Chilled pears can be dressed up with a dollop of whipped topping, fruit-filled yogurt or ice cream. -Betty Schledorn, Ocala, Florida

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 medium ripe pears, peeled and halved
4 teaspoons butter
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 teaspoons orange marmalade

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Place pear halves, cut side up, in a shallow 1-qt. baking dish. Place butter in the center of each; drizzle with lemon juice. , Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over pears. Top with marmalade. Bake, covered, until heated through, 15-20 minutes.

pears 8 small (or 4 large ones)
maple syrup 4 tbsp
white wine or vermouth 6 tbsp
water 150ml
cinnamon a short stick
vanilla pod 1

Steps:

  • Set the oven at 180C/gas mark 4. Peel the pears if you wish, or leave them as they are. (I only peel any with a very coarse skin.) Place the pears snugly in an ovenproof dish. Mix the syrup, wine and water and pour over the pears. Split the vanilla pod in half and tuck in among the pears. Add the cinnamon stick. Cover with foil or a lid and bake for 40-50 minutes until soft and tender. Turning the pears once or twice during baking ensures they cook more evenly. Serve the pears with the cream below.

Similar to baked apples. You can add chopped walnuts, nutmeg, cranberries, or anything you like.

2 large pears
1 teaspoon maple syrup, or to taste
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ cup vanilla ice cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Cut top quarter of pears off; create a well by scooping out the core, being careful not to puncture the bottom of the pear. Arrange pears in a shallow baking dish.
  • Drizzle maple syrup over pears. Place 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1 tablespoon butter in each pear; sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Bake in preheated oven until pears are easily pierced with a fork, 35 to 50 minutes. Serve with ice cream.

Seasonal fruit glazed with syrup and topped with cardamom cream is lovely for a fall dinner.

1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
3 Comice pears (about 1 3/4 pounds)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup

Steps:

  • In a chilled mixing bowl, combine cream and cardamom and whip until cream holds soft peaks. Refrigerate, covered.
  • Quarter, core, and peel pears. Cut quarters in half and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Arrange pears in skillet and cook on one side until pears just begin to brown, about 3 minutes. Add maple syrup and cook until pears are tender, about 1 minute more. Turn pears and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and allow pears to cool slightly. Transfer to bowls and serve warm, topped with whipped cream.
