Spiced Buttercream image

Spiced buttercream is the perfect frosting to pair with pumpkin, chocolate or vanilla cake! With cinnamon and nutmeg, is this a great fall spice frosting!

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 sticks unsalted butter (room temperature (1 & 1/2 cups))
5 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl beat the softened butter using an electric mixer for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add in the powdered sugar (2 cups at a time) and the cinnamon & nutmeg, mixing by hand or on low. Continue to beat in the powdered sugar until the frosting is smooth and tastes good to you!
  • Use on cupcakes, cake or cookies. Store in an air tight container for up to 2 days. Makes enough frosting to frost 24 cupcakes or one 9x13 inch cake.

1 cup (2 sticks) room-temperature unsalted butter
1 bar (8 ounces) room-temperatre cream cheese
1 pound (1 box) confectioner's sugar
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together 1 cup (2 sticks) room-temperature unsalted butter and 1 bar (8 ounces) room-temperature cream cheese until smooth; gradually beat in 1 pound (1 box) confectioners? sugar until smooth. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice.

Hanging out and baking on a rainy Friday in my friend's apartment, we got creative with a batch of brownies. After adding tons of chocolate chips and some M+M's, I decided they still weren't sweet enough and needed frosting, too. I had been eyeing the bottle of Captain Morgan's sitting out on the coffee table (yeah) and suddenly, I had a beautiful idea for frosting... (keep in mind i didn't measure anything when making this, so no need to be precise on amounts).

1/3 cup spiced rum (more or less to taste)
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • In medium-sized bowl, mash butter with a fork until it's soft.
  • Add 1 cup powered sugar and mix with fork until there's no dry sugar left.
  • Add the rum and beat with electric mixer on medium until mixture is somewhat smooth.
  • Slowly add in the rest of the sugar, adding more or less depending on the consistancy you'd like.
  • Beat with mixer until completely smooth.
  • This makes enough frosting for a batch of brownies (um, or a snack -- ), but I'm positive it could be doubled or tripled easily; it's pretty hard to mess up frosting.

1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk
SEVEN-MINUTE FROSTING:
4 large egg whites
1-1/3 cups sugar
1 tablespoon water
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. , Pour into two greased 9-in. round baking pans. Bake 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely., In a heatproof bowl of a stand mixer, whisk egg whites, sugar, water and cream of tartar until blended. Place over simmering water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Whisking constantly, heat mixture until a thermometer reads 160°, about 2-3 minutes., Remove from heat; add vanilla. With the whisk attachment of a stand mixer, beat on high speed until stiff glossy peaks form, about 7 minutes. Spread frosting between layers and over the top and sides of cake. Store frosted cake, uncovered, in refrigerator.
