While looking through my bread recipes one day, I happened upon this one and decided to give it a try. I offered one to my dad and ever since then, he's raved about how much he loves them. He even offers samples to friends and family. -Becky

Yield 2 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup water (70° to 80°)
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 large egg
1-1/4 teaspoons salt
3-1/4 cups bread flour
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder
1 package (1/4 ounce) quick-rise yeast
EGG WASH:
1 large egg
4 teaspoons water

Steps:

  • In bread machine pan, place the first eight ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting. Check dough after 5 minutes of mixing; add 1-2 tablespoons water or flour if needed., When cycle is completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide and shape into 24 balls. Roll each into an 8-in. rope; tie into a loose knot. Tuck ends under., Place 1-1/2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. Cover with a kitchen towel; let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400°., For egg wash, in a small bowl, whisk egg and water; brush over rolls. Bake 8-9 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks; serve warm.

1 cup water
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg
3 ½ cups White Lily® All Purpose Wheat Flour, or more as needed
¼ cup sugar
1 ¼ teaspoons salt
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
Crisco® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray

Steps:

  • Place water, butter, egg, 3 cups flour blend, sugar, salt and yeast in bread machine pan in order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Dough/Manual cycle. During initial mixing cycle, open lid and scrape down sides of bread pan as necessary. As dough mixes, add just enough additional flour blend to create a soft dough. When Dough/Manual cycle is complete, remove dough from bread machine pan. Place on lightly floured surface.
  • Coat 13 x 9-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Pat dough into rectangle. Cut with pizza cutter or serrated knife into 15 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball. Place evenly in prepared pan. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Uncover rolls. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or cool completely on wire rack.

3 ¼ cups bread flour
1 cup warm water
¼ cup white sugar
1 large egg
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Place bread flour, water, sugar, egg, 2 tablespoons softened butter, yeast, and salt into the pan of your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select the Dough cycle and press Start. When the cycle is complete, remove the dough and press down to deflate.
  • Divide dough into 15 equal pieces and form into rolls. Place rolls in prepared baking dish, brush with melted butter, and cover dish loosely with plastic wrap; let rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Bake rolls in the preheated oven until the tops are golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes.

From the Black & Decker Bread Machine. For Canada, it says to use 4 1/3 cup white flour. And USA 4 1/2 cups. I've always use 4 1/3 cup all purpose flour for this recipe.

1 2/3 cups water
2 tablespoons powdered milk
2 tablespoons shortening or 2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 1/3 cups white flour (US use 4 1/2 cups)
1 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Measure ingredients in the order listed into Baking Pan.
  • Select Dough.
  • When cycle is complete remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface. If necessary, knead in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Divide dough into 12-18 pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball. Place balls, almost touching in two greased 8 inch square cake pans; cover and let rise for 30 minutes or until almost double in volume. Brush with glaze. Bake in 350 F (177 c) oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and bottom sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from pans and let cool on wire racks.
  • This recipe can be formed into cloverleaf, crescents, parker-house or bread sticks.
