Tender chicken thighs cooked with barbecue sauce and root beer. A great choice instead of grilling

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs (well trimmed of fat)
1/4 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Rays Original )
12 oz. can Root Beer (I use A & W)
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
  • Sprinkle over the oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne over the chicken
  • Pour over the barbecue sauce,
  • Pour over the root beer.
  • Cover and cook on low for 7 hours.
  • Shred chicken with 2 forks and serve over buns or rice.

3 lb chicken wings
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
1 cup BBQ sauce
17 fl oz root beer
BBQ sauce, to taste
¼ cup brown sugar, to taste

Steps:

  • Season chicken wings with salt and pepper.
  • Spray your slow cooker pot with cooking spray, add chicken wings, bbq sauce and root beer. Cover, cook on low for 4 hours.
  • Remove wings from slow cooker, place on parchment lined tray. Brush more bbq sauce onto wings, sprinkle on some brown sugar. Place under broiler for 8 -10 minutes.
  • Enjoy!

3 1/4-4 lbs chicken drumsticks (about 12)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup root beer (Regular please, NOT Diet!)
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup minced fresh onion
1 tablespoon fresh gingerroot, peeled and minced
1 garlic clove, peeled and minced

Steps:

  • Spray the inside of the crock of a slow cooker; set aside.
  • Remove the skin from the chicken drumsticks.
  • Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper, and then place them in the prepared crock.
  • Place the root beer, ketchup, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onion, ginger root, and garlic into a medium bowl; whisking to combine.
  • Pour the sauce over the chicken, turning drumsticks to coat, if necessary.
  • Turn the slow cooker on HIGH and cook for 1 hour.
  • Reduce the setting to LOW and continue cooking for 6-7 hours or until chicken is done.
  • Serve chicken with a little sauce spooned over top.
  • Sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds and chopped parsley, if desired.

1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup root beer
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F Coat a 9" x 13" baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Place the chicken pieces in the baking dish. Season with the salt and pepper. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until no pink remains in the chicken and the juices run clear.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining ingredients; mix well and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes until reduced by half.
  • Preheat the grill to medium heat. Coat the chicken with the sauce and grill for 5 minutes per side, basting frequently with the remaining sauce. Serve with the remaining sauce for dipping.

I wanted a recipe for chicken legs in the slow cooker, so I searched many recipes and finally found two that I meshed together to get the perfect BBQ chicken legs. My family loved them, and the texture and flavor of the chicken was awesome! This 2-step process is what makes it so great-the slow cooker keeps the chicken very juicy, and then finishing it in the oven crisps up the skin without drying up the chicken.

¾ cup ketchup
½ cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons minced garlic, or to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
12 (4 ounce) bone-in chicken drumsticks, with skin

Steps:

  • Mix ketchup, onion, brown sugar, garlic, vegetable oil, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt, and pepper together in a bowl.
  • Place chicken drumsticks in a slow cooker and drizzle sauce over top. Cook on High for 3 hours.
  • When the 3 hours are almost up, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Transfer chicken and sauce to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook in the preheated oven until no longer pink at the bone, the juices run clear, and the skin is browned, about 30 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
