I made this at easter and took it round to my neighbours because they have to young children, it was much aprreiciated, it looks pretty to, so the girls will come running

180 g butter
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
3/4 cup caster sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1/2 cup milk
pink food coloring
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 tablespoon milk
90 g butter
1 cup icing sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
pink food coloring

Steps:

  • lightly grease 20cm ring pan, cover with grease paper.
  • beat butter, essence and caster sugar in a small bowl with an electiric mixer until light and fluffy.
  • add eggs.
  • beating well.
  • transfer to a large bowl and fold in sifted flour and milk in 2 batches.
  • divide mixture evenly between 3 bowls.
  • 1st bowl:.
  • tint mixture pink.
  • 2nd bowl:.
  • stir sifted cocoa and extra milk.
  • 3rd bowl:.
  • add extra milk.
  • drop spoonfools of each mixture into pan.
  • run knife through to give a marbled effect.
  • bake in a moderate oven for about 40 minutes.
  • stand 5 minutes.
  • turn onto cooling rack.
  • icing:.
  • beat butter with electric mixer until as white as possible.
  • beat in sifted icing sugar and milk in 2 batches.
  • divide mixture into 2 bowls.
  • tinting one pink.
  • drop spoonfools of each onto cake, use spatula to give marbled effect.

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
½ cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch round pan.
  • Place flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, butter or margarine, eggs, vanilla, and milk into mixing bowl. Beat slowly to moisten, then beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth. Reserve 3/4 cup batter; pour the remainder into pan.
  • Stir cocoa into the 3/4 cup reserved batter. Drop by spoonfuls over top of white batter. Using a knife, swirl the cocoa batter into the white batter to incorporate it in a marble effect.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until an inserted wooden pick comes out clean.

2-1/4 cups sugar
3 large eggs
4-1/2 teaspoons white vinegar
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3-3/4 cups cake flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1-1/2 cups buttermilk
3 tablespoons baking cocoa
4-1/2 teaspoons red food coloring
FROSTING:
1 cup butter, softened
9 cups confectioners' sugar
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
2/3 to 3/4 cup 2% milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Line bottoms of 2 greased 9-in. round baking pans with parchment; grease paper., In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vinegar and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk flour and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition., Transfer half the batter to another bowl; stir in cocoa and food coloring until blended. Alternately drop plain and chocolate batters by 1/4 cupfuls into prepared pans, dividing batter evenly between pans. To make batter level in pans, bang cake pans several times on counter., Bake 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely., In a large bowl, beat butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla and enough milk to reach a spreading consistency. Spread frosting between layers and over top and sides of cake.

1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips, optional
FROSTING:
3/4 cup butter, softened
6-3/4 cups confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 to 2/3 cup 2% milk
2 tablespoons miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • In top of a double boiler or a metal bowl over barely simmering water, melt chocolate and 3 tablespoons butter; stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature., Preheat oven to 375°. Line bottoms of three greased 8-in. round baking pans with parchment; grease parchment., In a large bowl, cream remaining butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Whisk flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beating well after each addition., Remove 2 cups batter to a small bowl; stir in cooled chocolate mixture and, if desired, chocolate chips, until blended. Drop plain and chocolate batters by tablespoonfuls into prepared pans, dividing batters evenly among pans. To make batter level in pans, bang cake pans several times on counter., Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 20-25 minutes.
