There's nothing better on a cold day than a steaming mug of rich hot chocolate. Malted milk powder adds a nice touch to this yummy version. -Christy Meinecke, Mansfield, Texas

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups 2% milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1/3 cup malted milk powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until bubbles form around sides of pan., Meanwhile, in a small bowl, beat cream until it begins to thicken. Add sugar; beat until soft peaks form., Whisk chocolate chips and milk powder into milk until chocolate is melted. Remove from the heat; whisk in vanilla. Pour into mugs. Spoon whipped cream over the top.

1/2 cup hot water
1 cup vanilla ice cream
2 tablespoons warm glossy chocolate sauce, recipe follows
2 teaspoons malt powder
1 cup chilled heavy cream

Steps:

  • Warm Glossy Chocolate Sauce:
  • In the top half of a double boiler, combine the 2 chocolates over simmering water. Stir constantly until melted, then whisk in the corn syrup and water. Whisk until smooth and shiny.
  • Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

  • In a large saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until bubbles begin to form around the edge of the pan.
  • While milk is heating, pour cream into a small chilled bowl. Blend the whipping cream until it begins to thicken. Add sugar and continue to blend until soft peaks form.
  • Whisk the chocolate chips and malt powder into the hot milk. Continue to whisk until chocolate is melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  • Pour hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream.

4 ounces semisweet chocolate, roughly chopped
3/4 cup malted-milk powder

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat milk and vanilla over medium heat just until milk begins to steam, 5 to 6 minutes. Add chopped chocolate, and whisk until completely melted and combined.
  • Pour malt powder into a warmed serving pitcher or another saucepan. Add hot chocolate mixture, whisking thoroughly until powder dissolves. Divide among four mugs; serve immediately.

4 cups milk (I like to use non homogenized)
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 -4 tablespoons confectioners' sugar (depending on how sweet you like your whipped cream)
1 cup milk chocolate chips
1/3 cup instant malted milk powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract, divided
extra malt drink powder (to garnish)

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until it begins to form bubbles around the edge of the pan.
  • While milk is heating, beat cream in a chilled bowl until it begins to thicken. Add sugar and 1/2 teaspoons of almond extract and beat until soft peaks form.
  • Whisk chocolate chips and malted milk powder into the milk and continue to stir until chocolate is melted.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in the vanilla and remaining teaspoons almond extracts.
  • Pour into mugs, spoon whipped cream over each, and sprinkle with a little malt powder.
