HOW TO MAKE A CURTAIN PANEL INTO A SWAG - SFGATE

Lay the curtain panel flat on your work surface with the wrong side of the panel facing up. Press the fabric lightly with an iron on the medium heat setting to remove any wrinkles.
Measure the width of the bottom hem on the panel so you can create a hem on the hanger side of equal width.
Prepare the end of the panel with the hangers for hemming, which varies depending on the type of hanger. Simple rod pocket panels may require no preparation, while those with tabs or grommets will require the remove of the hangers.
Fold over the hanger end of the curtain by 1/2 inch. Press the fold with the iron to form a crisp edge. Fold over the end a second time, making the fold the same width as the hem on the lower section of the panel.
Sew a straight stitch along the edge of the fold, using the sewing machine. Begin the stitch with 1 inch of backstitching to secure the thread, then stitch within 1/4-inch of the folded edge.
Drape the panel over the ends of the curtain rod or over swag pommels installed at each top corner of the window. Adjust the swag so an equal amount drapes on either side of the window.
