6 cups tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1 ¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup milk
½ cup biscuit mix (e.g. Bisquick)
2 eggs
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup biscuit mix (e.g. Bisquick)
½ cup chopped walnuts
⅓ cup light brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 10 inch pie pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix apples, cinnamon and nutmeg together; turn mixture into pan. In a separate bowl, beat sugar, milk, 1/2 cup biscuit mix, eggs and butter until smooth. Pour over apples.
  • To Make Streusel: In a small bowl, stir together 1 cup biscuit mix, nuts, brown sugar and butter; mix until crumbly. Sprinkle streusel over top of pie.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 55 to 60 minutes; bake until knife inserted in center of pie comes out clean.

3 large all-purpose apples (braeburm, Gala), peeled and thinly sliced (3 cups)
1/2 cup Original Bisquick®
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 eggs
1/2 cup Original Bisquick®
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons firm margarine or butter
Streusel Topping
1/2 cup Original Bisquick
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons firm margarine or butter
Mix Bisquick, nuts and brown sugar. Cut in margarine, using fork or pastry blender, until mixture is crumbly.

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350°. Grease pie plate, 9 x 1 1/4 inches. Make Streusel Topping; set aside. Spread apples in pie plate. 2. In separate bowl, stir remaining ingredients until blended. Pour over apples. Sprinkle with topping. 3. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes.

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325. Spray 9" glass pie plate w/ cooking spray. In small bowl, mix STREUSEL ingredients, cutting in butter using pasty blender till crumbly; set aside. In med. bowl, mix apples, cinnamon, nutmeg. Spread in pie plate. In med. bowl, stir remaining ingredients till blended. Pour into pie plate. Sprinkle w/ STREUSEL. Bake 40-45 mins. or till knife inserted in center comes out clean and top is golden. Cool 5 mins. Store covered in refrigerator.

1 cup Original Bisquick™ mix
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
4 eggs, beaten

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray. In medium bowl, mix 1 cup Bisquick mix and the brown sugar. Cut in 1/4 cup butter, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until crumbly. Stir in nuts; set aside.
  • In large bowl, mix apples, cinnamon and nutmeg; spoon into pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients until well blended. Pour mixture over apples. Sprinkle with streusel.
  • Bake 45 to 55 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean and top is golden brown. Cool 30 minutes or until set before cutting into squares. Store in refrigerator.

I think this is like a cross between a cobbler and a cake, rather than like a pie. I baked mine in a small glass baking dish instead of a pie plate, since it is a lot easier for me to cut squares than pie wedges! (Also I have a cover for my square dish.) For the baking mix, I used half Reduced Fat Bisquick and half Hodgson Mills Whole Wheat Buttermilk baking mix. I also used a bit less sugar in the pie part of the recipe since I thought the streusel topping and apples gave it plenty of sweetness. From Bisquick.
