TARTAR SAUCE WITH HORSERADISH



Tartar Sauce with Horseradish image

This is a great tartar sauce to serve with fish (we also use it with fried shrimp). This recipe has been in my collection for years, I don't remember where I got it.

Yield 3/4 Cup, approximately

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish, drained
2 tablespoons finely minced dill pickles
1 teaspoon grated onion
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 dash Tabasco sauce
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cream-style horseradish sauce (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • The sauce will keep in the fridge for about 3-5 days.
  • Serve with fish.

This sauce is excellent served with my codfish cakes (recipe#133308). Increase the horseradish to suit your taste.

1 stalk celery, finely chopped
2 tablespoons finely chopped cornichons (or sour pickles)
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped flat leaf parsley
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
6 tablespoons good quality mayonnaise (I use hellman's or homemade)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
salt & freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine celery, cornichons, horseradish, parsley, mustard, mayonnaise and lemon juice. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve with fish.

Mix together Alton Brown's Horseradish Cream Sauce from Food Network for an easy condiment to go with roast beef and more.

1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup grated fresh horseradish
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place all of the ingredients into a medium mixing bowl and whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow flavors to meld. Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 2 to 3 weeks.
