Categories     main-dish

Time 5h

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (12-pound) joint (mild cure boneless) ham
7 quarts dry ginger ale
1 cup chunky ginger preserves*
2 tablespoons hot English mustard
1/2 cup soft dark brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • Place the joint in a large pan over the hob, or burner, and add 7 quarts of dry ginger ale. Bring the pan to the boil then lower the heat slightly so that it keeps bubbling steadily for 4 1/2 hours.
  • Towards the end of the 4 1/2 hours, preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and begin the glaze.
  • In a bowl, add 1 cup of chunky ginger preserves. Stir in 2 tablespoons of hot English mustard. Add 1/2 a cup of soft, dark brown sugar and sprinkle in 1/2 a teaspoon of ground cloves.
  • After 4 1/2 hours, gently lift the ham out of the pan and place on a foil-lined baking tray. Carefully cut away the skin, leaving a thin layer of fat. There is no need to score the surface, simply slap on the glaze and place the tray with the ham into the oven for 20 minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold.

GINGER ALE GLAZED HAM FOR EASTER DINNER

Ginger Ale Glazed Ham for Easter Dinner image

This was the main attraction for our Easter dinner, it was a 10 3/4 pound Hillshire Spiral Half Ham. We love Hillshire Ham in fact I often refer to it as the Cadillac of all hams because of it's superiority in flavor, taste & quality. It is expensive but it is well worth every penny you pay for it. It is not overly salty, &...

Time 2h40m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 10 3/4 pound spiral hillshire ham
1 c good quality ginger ale
1 c stone ground mustard
1 c light brown sugar firmly packed
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1 1/2 Tbsp butter

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. But follow the directions for the ham that you have purchased.
  • 2. I had to remove the wrapping and the disk covering the bone, and then wrap the ham tightly in aluminum foil. Then place in a large pan with a 2 inch side. No water was needed. Place ham in middle rack and bake for 13 -15 minutes per pound. My ham needed 2 1/2 hours baking time.
  • 3. GLAZE RECIPE: Add the ginger ale, ground mustard, brown sugar & cloves to a medium sauce pan, then stir to blend. Place over medium high heat and bring to a boil, whisking as you go. Do not leave sauce pan unattended or it can quickly boil over. Continue to stir as glaze will thicken in just a few minutes about 5 to 10 minutes. When glaze becomes syrupy remove from heat and add butter, then stir till butter melts. Then brush glaze over ham on all sides.
  • 4. I baked the ham for 2 hours, then made the glaze while the ham was baking, removed the ham after the 2 hours has elapsed, then glazed the ham on all sides, then returned it to the oven. Then repeated this step 2 additional times for a total of 30 minutes. There was juice that accumulated in the bottom of the pan from the ham.
  • 5. I lined a platter with fresh greens, and added some decorative fruit that I had cut, and placed a cherry in the middle of each piece of citrus fruit , added a few green & red Grapes that I drizzled with Agave nectar and dusted with powdered sugar.
  • 6. Added the ham & carefully separated the slices & arranged them on the tray in an attractive manner.

SPICED GINGER-GLAZED HAM

Spiced ginger-glazed ham image

Treat guests over for Christmas to a Boxing Day ham. You don't need a long shopping list - this easy, sweetly spiced version uses just five ingredients

Provided by Anna Glover

Categories     Dinner, Main course

Time 3h40m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2kg unsmoked boneless gammon joint
2 ½l ginger ale (not sugar-free)
2 tsp allspice berries , plus 1 tsp, crushed
300g light brown soft sugar
3 tbsp finely grated ginger

Steps:

  • Put the gammon in a large pan and cover with 2 litres of ginger ale. Top up with water to cover the joint, if you need to. Add the whole allspice berries and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down to low, and simmer gently, covered, for 2½ hrs. Top up with water, if you need to, while it's simmering.
  • Drain the ham and leave until it's cool enough to handle while you make the glaze. Put the remaining ginger ale in a pan with the sugar, grated ginger and crushed allspice. Simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 mins until syrupy.
  • Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Remove the skin from the ham, leaving a layer of fat, then score the fat in a criss-cross pattern. Transfer the ham to a foil-lined roasting tin, and brush over half the glaze. Roast for 15 mins, then glaze with the remaining syrup. Increase the temperature to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and roast for a further 15-20 mins until you get a sticky golden crust. Leave to cool for 15 mins before carving. Drizzle over more glaze from the tin to serve, if you like. Can be made ahead and chilled for up to four days.

GINGER ALE GLAZED HAM

Ginger Ale Glazed Ham image

We love the ginger ale glaze on this baked ham. It's slightly sweet but tangy at the same time. There is a hint of spice from the red pepper. Now, this ham takes a little babysitting because of basting but the end result is amazing. As you bake the ham, the glaze thickens up. Glazing the ham with honey at the end is a tasty final touch. It mixes with the glaze and adds great flavor. Juicy, this is a delicious holiday ham.

GINGER ALE - HONEY MUSTARD GLAZED HAM

Ginger Ale - Honey Mustard Glazed Ham image

The glaze on this recipe is sweet, tangy and delicious! This would be perfect for your holiday ham... it will be a big hit with guests!

Provided by Tiffany Ash

Categories     Other Sauces

Time 3h30m

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 1/2 lb ham
1 c ginger ale
3/4 c prepared mustard
1/2 c honey
1/2 c light brown sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees.
  • 2. I slow cooked an 8 1/2 lb ham in a shallow roasting pan for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I added just a cup of ginger ale to the shallow pan and tented the ham with foil.
  • 3. Prepare glaze: 30 minutes before ham is done cooking, make your glaze in a separate bowl, 3/4 cup of prepared mustard (French's, dijon... whatever your taste), 1/2 cup of honey and a 1/2 cup of light brown sugar.
  • 4. Take ham out of the oven and score the top and smother with glaze. Put back in the oven for at least 10 minutes and add more glaze if desired. Or, what I did was spoon the ginger ale juices back over the glazed ham. Let cook for another 10 minutes and should be ready to serve.
  • 5. As it shows in the picture, I made a side of garlic sour cream mashed potatoes and peas simmered in the ginger ale juice from the ham.
