Time 22m

Number Of Ingredients 8

15 slices Texas Toast style bread
7 large eggs
2 tablespoons butter (unsalted)
1 ½ cups almond milk (unsweetened )
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
maple syrup (optional )

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine ingredients until batter is light yellow in color and egg yolks are broken.
  • Heat up a large frying pan over medium heat. We turned our electric griddle to 350° F. Allow one tablespoon of coconut oil to melt (or butter) if dairy is okay.
  • Dip your bread slices into the mixture and make sure both sides are coated with batter.
  • Line griddle with battered slices and cook for about 3-5 minutes per side or until golden brown. French toast should feel slightly firm when pressed on each side. Repeat, and use your extra butter/oil for the next slices
  • Garnish French Toast with powdered sugar and maple syrup (optional)

FRENCH TOAST WITH ALMOND MILK

Categories     Breakfast

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 eggs
1 cup almond milk
1 1/2 tablespoon granulated sugar or honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
8 slices sandwich bread

Steps:

  • Take a big mixing bowl and add in the eggs, almond milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and pinch of salt. Give the mixture a good stir or whisk.
  • Place the bread in one slice at a time. Flip the bread to make sure both sides are coated evenly. You don't want the bread to sit in the mixture too long as it can soak up too much liquid and become soggy. Set the coated bread to the side on a plate.
  • Heat a pan or skillet on medium heat. Add coconut oil or melt butter in the pan. Then place the slices of coated bread in the skillet. Cook each side of the bread for 2-3 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  • Enjoy topped with honey / maple syrup and berries.

ALMOND FRENCH TOAST

Almond French Toast image

This is one of my family's favorites brunches. Because of the baking powder the slices really "puff" up when fried, and the French toast is light and so fluffy! Prep time includes one hour refrigeration time. Also the bread slices need to be refrigerated for 1 hour.

Time 1h

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups cups slivered almonds (can use more or less)

3 tablespoons oil (more as needed)

Yield Makes 4 breakfast servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 large eggs
1 1/3 cups half-and-half
4 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups sliced almonds (5 oz)
8 (3/4-inch-thick) slices brioche or challah from a 4- to 5-inch-wide loaf
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
Accompaniments: maple syrup; confectioners sugar (optional)

Steps:

  • Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 275°F.
  • Whisk together eggs, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a large shallow dish until combined well. Spread almonds on a large plate. Soak 4 slices of bread in egg mixture, turning over once, until saturated. Working with 1 slice at a time, remove bread, letting excess egg mixture drip off, then dredge in almonds to coat both sides, gently pressing to help adhere. Transfer to a plate or wax paper. Repeat procedure with remaining 4 slices.
  • Heat 1 1/2 tablespoons butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat until foam subsides, then cook 4 bread slices, turning over once, until almonds and bread are golden brown, 5 to 6 minutes. Add remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons butter and cook remaining 4 slices in same manner. Transfer French toast to a baking sheet as cooked and keep warm in oven.

ALMOND-CRUSTED FRENCH TOAST

Almond-Crusted French Toast image

Serve a restaurant-style fall brunch at home with brioche French toast, caramelized apples, and nutty frangipane (almond-flavored cream or paste) from chef Alain Allegretti.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Breakfast & Brunch Recipes     Bread Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 to 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 Gala apples, peeled, cored, and each cut into 8 wedges
1 cup pure maple syrup, plus more for serving
1/4 cup canola oil
3 large eggs
2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon pure almond extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (1-pound) brioche Pullman loaf, crust removed, cut into 12 (1-inch cubes) or 4 (1-inch-thick) slices
2 tablespoons sliced almonds, toasted
1 cup almond paste
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Zest of 1/2 lemon

Steps:

  • Make the frangipane: In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, mix together almond paste, butter, eggs, flour, and lemon zest until smooth. (Frangipane can be made 3 days ahead and stored in an airtight container, refrigerated, until ready to use. Let soften at room temperature before using.)
  • Make the apples: Heat butter in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add apples and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove apples from skillet and wipe skillet clean. Return apples to skillet and add maple syrup; cook until apples are soft. Keep warm until ready to serve.
  • Preheat broiler.
  • Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. In a large, shallow dish, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, almond extract, and cinnamon. Working in batches, dip brioche in egg mixture to coat. Transfer to skillet and cook, turning, until golden brown on each side, about 30 seconds per side. Transfer to a baking sheet. Repeat process with remaining bread and egg mixture. Let French toast cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
  • Lightly spread frangipane evenly over one side of each piece of French toast; transfer to broiler and broil until golden, about 30 seconds. Divide French toast evenly among four serving plates and top with apples and toasted almonds; serve immediately with additional maple syrup.
