Steps:
- Place cinnamon sticks and cloves on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose spices; tie securely with string. Place in a 3-qt. slow cooker., Add remaining ingredients. Cook, covered, on low until flavors are blended, 4-5 hours. Discard spice bag. Serve warm.

- Stick cloves into the orange peels making sure to pierce well, place peels in bottom of crock pot.
- add wine, sugar and cinnamon.
- cover and cook on low 3-4 hours.
- place cut oranges out as a garnish for each serving.
- tip: add all ingredients to crock and let sit for a few hours to let the flavors blend. cooking time is not reflected in this tip.

TRADITIONAL MULLED WINE IN THE CROCK POT
I was wanting to use my crock pot to make a traditional mulled wine for Christmas. I sourced a number of recipes and came up with this

Steps:
- Make the tea. Let it steep and cool slightly. Add to crock pot. (I added about 4 cups).
- Cut the lemons and oranges into slices. Add the red wine. Add the brandy (cognac could be substituted).
- Add sugar to taste.
- Add cinnamon sticks and cloves.
- Heat in the crock pot for approximately 3 hours, or until warmed. (I was turning the pot on/off when the wine got too hot/cold during the evening).
- Note: Never let the wine mixture boil, or it will spoil. I used home made wine that our friend had given us. I used Ginger Tea, but any herbal tea could be used ~ or ~ for a different taste, use orange or pineapple juice.

- Place the rosemary sprigs in the bottom of a large saucepan with 1/2 cup white cranberry juice. Bring to a boil. Let boil for 3 minutes, then strain into the bottom of a slow cooker. Discard the rosemary stems.
- With a vegetable peeler, gently scrape away the rind of the orange so that you have orange peelings, being careful not to get any of the white pith, which is bitter. Add the peels to the slow cooker.
- To the slow cooker, add the remaining 1/2 cup white cranberry juice, bottle of white wine, cranberries, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Cook on low for 1 hour, until warm. Stir in the rum. Serve warm garnished with additional rosemary, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks.
