EASTER BREAD RINGS RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Easter Bread Rings Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by LLRedd

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 cup all purpose flour, sifted 2 times
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm 1% milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten, room temperature
4 tablespoons butter, melted but cooled
3/4 cup sour cream, room temperature (do not use light)
2 to 3 oranges, zested
1 teaspoon salt
4 1/4 cup all purpose flour, sifted 2 times
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 hard boiled eggs, dyed
sprinkles to decorate
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl add 1/2 cup flour, the yeast, and the lukewarm milk. With a whisk or a wooden spoon mix well and leave at room temperature until the yeast is proofed. With the dough hook on, start mixing on the lowest speed, slowly adding the eggs, sour cream, melted butter, orange rind, sugar and salt. Slowly add the rest of the flour, 1/4 cup at a time. When the flour is incorporated the dough will start to clean itself from the sides of the bowl, but it's still going to be quite sticky. Place the dough on a clean surface and start kneading by hand, pouring few drops of oil at a time on top of it. Knead by hand until all 3 tablespoons of oil are incorporated and the dough is soft but not sticky. Kneading by hand should take anywhere from 15 to 25 minutes. Place the dough into a clean oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and leave at room temperature until doubled in volume, about 1 hour and 30 minutes. When risen, take the dough out, place it on your work area, and press it lightly with your fingers until you form a sort of rectangle that is about 10x16 to 18-inches. Divide it in 12 small balls. Shape each ball into a 13 to 15-inch long rope. Take 2 ropes and braid them together, forming a ring by pinching the ends. Do the same with the remaining ropes. Place the dough rings on a baking sheet, nest a colored egg in the middle of each one, cover with plastic foil, and leave to rise for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile heat the oven to 375°F. Just before baking the rings, brush them with milk, and top with sprinkles. Careful to not wet the dyed eggs and brush away any sprinkles from the eggs. Bake for 22 minutes or until golden brown.

SWEET BRAIDED EASTER BREAD

Sweet Braided Easter Bread image

Delicious egg bread made with eggs, orange zest, and anise egg wash for an "eggstra" special flavor! A slightly sweet bread good by itself or toasted, especially with coffee or tea. You can even use it for French toast or bread pudding. I make this every year for my family at Easter. A special treat they look forward to once a year! The colored eggs are great fun too and add to your holiday decor.

Time 3h35m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 ¼ cups whole milk (heated to 95 degrees F/35 degrees C)
⅓ cup vegetable oil
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon orange extract
3 eggs, at room temperature, divided
⅔ cup white sugar
3 tablespoons grated orange zest
4 cups all-purpose flour, or more as needed
4 teaspoons active dry yeast
4 whole eggs
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons anise extract
assorted food coloring
1 teaspoon anisette liqueur

Steps:

  • Combine milk, oil, salt, orange extract, 2 eggs at room temperature, sugar, orange zest, 4 cups of flour, and yeast in a bread machine, in that order. Set to Dough cycle and start the machine; be sure to peek inside while dough is mixing and add additional flour as needed to create a soft, but not wet, dough.
  • Transfer dough to an oiled bowl and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, bring a pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to a rapid simmer and add 4 whole eggs to soft boil. Continue to simmer for 6 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water to cool quickly.
  • Punch risen dough down and turn onto a floured surface. Divide into 3 even pieces. Roll each piece to form about a 1 1/2-inch thick rope that is 12 inches long. Take the pieces and braid them together, pinching the ends. Loop into a circle and pinch the ends to close. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Align boiled eggs evenly about the braid and push in gently, about 1/3 of the way down. Cover and let rise again, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Combine remaining room temperature egg, 2 tablespoons water, and anise extract in a bowl for egg wash. Brush braid with the egg wash, being careful not to get any on your boiled eggs or while baking they will have cooked wash on them and won't dye nicely.
  • Bake in the preheated oven, switching between another parchment-lined baking sheet every 10 minutes throughout baking time to prevent the bottom from getting too dark, until browned, about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool thoroughly, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Paint your eggs on the bread with liquid food dye. Be careful not to drip on the bread. Let dry, about 10 minutes. Brush bread with anisette liqueur and let dry before serving, about 5 minutes more.

BRAIDED EASTER EGG BREAD

Braided Easter Egg Bread image

This decorative Easter bread has whole eggs baked into it! Do not cook the whole eggs, as they will bake at the same time that the bread does. The eggs can also be dyed for extra color.

Categories     Bread     Yeast Bread Recipes

Time 3h

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
⅔ cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
5 whole eggs, dyed if desired
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, sugar, salt and yeast; stir well. Combine milk and butter in a small saucepan; heat until milk is warm and butter is softened but not melted.
  • Gradually add the milk and butter to the flour mixture; stirring constantly. Add two eggs and 1/2 cup flour; beat well. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  • Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
  • Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal size rounds; cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Roll each round into a long roll about 36 inches long and 1 1/2 inches thick. Using the two long pieces of dough, form a loosely braided ring, leaving spaces for the five colored eggs. Seal the ends of the ring together and use your fingers to slide the eggs between the braids of dough.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place loaf on a buttered baking sheet and cover loosely with a damp towel. Place loaf in a warm place and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes. Brush risen loaf with melted butter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

EASTER BREAD RING

Easter Bread Ring image

This recipe is from Italy. The Italians love it, especially at Easter time.

Provided by MARBALET

Categories     100+ Breakfast and Brunch Recipes     Breakfast Bread Recipes

Time 3h5m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 16

5 eggs
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
⅔ cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs, room temperature
½ cup mixed candied fruit
⅓ cup chopped blanched almonds
½ teaspoon anise seed
2 tablespoons melted shortening
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon whole milk
⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons multicolored sprinkles (jimmies)

Steps:

  • Color the 5 eggs with egg dye. In a large mixing bowl, blend the white sugar, salt, and yeast well with 1 cup of the flour.
  • In a saucepan, combine 2/3 cup milk and butter, heating slowly until liquid is warm and butter is melted. Pour the milk into the dry ingredients and beat 125 strokes with a wooden spoon. Add eggs and 1/2 cup flour or enough to make a thick batter. Beat vigorously for 2 minutes. Stir in enough flour to make a ball of dough that draws away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Turn out onto a floured board and knead for about 10 minutes, working in additional flour to overcome stickiness. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to grease the top. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and put in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, combine the fruit, nuts, and anise seed.
  • Punch down the dough and return it to a lightly floured board. Knead in the fruit mixture, keeping the syrupy pieces dusted with flour until they are worked into the dough. Divide the dough in half.
  • Carefully roll each piece into a 24-inch rope--the fruit and nuts will make this slightly difficult. Loosely twist the two ropes together and form a ring on a greased baking sheet. Pinch the ends together well. Brush the dough with melted shortening. Push aside the twist to make a place for each egg. Push eggs down carefully as far as possible. Cover the bread with wax paper and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
  • Bake the bread in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in a twist comes out clean. Place on a wire rack to cool.
  • Once the bread is cool, drizzle the icing on top between the eggs, and decorate with colored sprinkles. To make icing: mix together confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon whole milk, and vanilla.
