BATH BOMBS WITH COCOA BUTTER

Bath Bombs With Cocoa Butter image

For the bath goddess in all of us! I created this bomb, putting in all the ingredients that I love. Bombs made with butters are easier to mold together and they hold their shape better. These bombs will surpass any commercial bomb by far. They don't have to be made up in molds, the product can be left loose and packaged into pretty bags. You do need a weight scale for this one. Included are detailed instructions how to make bath bombs. Great for gifts.

Time 30m

Yield 13 bombs

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups baking soda
1 cup citric acid
1 cup cornstarch
1 tablespoon borax
2 teaspoons essential oils (or favorite scent)
85 g cocoa butter, melted

Steps:

  • To make bath bombs successfully, have ingredients ready to mix. Choose your moulds carefully and have, at least, 2 molds ready for filling. Read the instructions first so you know what you are doing. Carefully measure out the wet ingredients (if you have too much, you will end up with "slop", and, if that is the case, just dry the product out and leave it loose (it will still work!).
  • To Start: Combine the baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, and borax.
  • Melt the cocoa buter in a microwave safe measuring cup or over low heat in a small pot. Add to the baking soda mixture. Combine the mixture and add the essential oils. Mix well. Mixture should hold together when you make a ball.
  • Working quickly, press the mixture FIRMLY into your mold, making sure the edges are clean. Leave the mixture in to the mold for a couple of minutes, then pop out. While one tray is drying, work on the other (I put a small cutting board over top of the mold, flip over, then lift the mold off). Let bombs dry overnight undisturbed. Once dried, place them in a decorative bag and tie with ribbon.
  • To use: Drop 1 bomb into your tub and relax.
  • ~Or~ leave the mixture in the mixing bowl for 24 hours, periodically mixing the ingredients, breaking up the clumps. Once the product has dried out, place in a nice decorative bag with a colourful ribbon. Makes nice gifts.
  • Helpful Hints: Your favorite perfume could be used in the bomb. Realize that while it is messy, wasteful, and considering how expensive perfumes are -- but it can be done. Remove the sprayer nozzle and spray into a measuring cup the desired amount Because perfume is so concentrated, use 3/4 - 1 tsp, or until you are satisfied with the smell.
  • I have used large ice cube trays that I use just for bath bombs. When picking a mould you want something that is not too big (you end up wasting product) and soft edges (the bombs end up too fragile with sharp angles). When the bombs are in the molds, and I have pressed firmly down, I will run a sharp knife along the bottom of the mold to get a clean, flat edge. You can put lavender flowers, rose petals, etc in your mixture, but sometimes it ends up clogging your drains, so think carefully about what you are putting in the bombs -- if you put too much dried fowers in the bomb may not come together.
  • Commercial bombs have lots of hidden ingredients it them that are not necessarly good for the skin, like Sodium Laurel Sulphite -- which gives you the "bubbling action" You get nice bubbles, but this product (in its raw state) will actually burn the skin.

  • Three Little Ferns DIY Coconut Milk Bath. DIY bath milk recipes often contain dairy. But it doesn’t have to be whole milk. You can use yogurt, buttermilk, coconut milk, goat milk, powdered milk, and even breast milk!
  • Vanilla + Rose + Salt DIY Milk Bath. If you’re using flower petals, buds, infused water, or glitter in your DIY milk bath, you need two things. One, polysorbate or a similar emulsifier.
  • DIY Mint Milk Bath. Emulsifiers break oil into tiny, almost invisible particles. This way, they mix into the water better, won’t for greasy floating blobs, and absorbs into your skin more easily.
  • DIY Coconut Milk Bath. Rose petals, lavender buds, chamomile, and mica make your bath look pretty and smell amazing. But they can clog your pipes. So if you’re adding any of these to your DIY milk bath recipe, use a muslin bag or cloth bag to hold your bath milk.
  • Ms. Health Esteem DIY Coconut Milk Bath. Powdered coconut milk offers a convenient shortcut for DIY milk bath recipes. But here’s a recipe that uses fresh coconut instead.
  • DIY Lavender Milk Bath. DIY bath milks and other bath products often have infused waters like rose water or lemon water. Or even just plain water. This can get moldy in the bottle, and emulsifiers can help you prevent that.
  • DIY Goat Milk Lavender + Chamomile Bath. Sometimes, you put a teabag into milk tea to flavor it. You can use teabags for DIY milk baths too. Particularly caffeine-free herbal tea bags, sometimes marketed as tea infusions.
  • DIY Foaming Coconut Bath Milk. DIY bath milks are silky rather than fizzy. But if you want a bit of froth and foam, add baking soda and citric acid to your recipe.
  • DIY Honey Milk Bath. If you’re making a DIY bath milk recipe with baking soda and citric acid, always air-dry the powder before packing. This prevents premature effervescence.
  • DIY Foaming Cocoa Butter Milk Bath. Polysorbate 20 (or 80) is a synthetic emulsifier. So while it does make oil-based DIY bath milk easier to absorb, breaking up the oil particles makes it easier to clean the bathtub after your bath.
