This delicious mandel bread recipe has been passed down generations and is sure to be your family's favorite too. Get the recipe from Jamie Geller.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips To keep it pareve, make sure chips are pareve!
⅓ cup Sugar for rolling
⅓ cup Cinnamon for rolling
Optional Any other add-ins you might want!

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together oil and sugar until combined, and then add eggs one at a time. After the eggs are combined, add vanilla. Sift together all the dry ingredients and add them slowly to the sugar/egg mixture. 2. Once the dough is smooth and sticky, pour the chocolate chips and mix. Put the dough in the refrigerator for a few hours (at least 2) or overnight. 3. Preheat oven to 350℉. 4. Oil your hands, and form 4-5 rows with the dough onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes, remove and lower oven temp to 250℉. 5. Meanwhile, combine cinnamon and sugar together in a flat dish. 6. Slice the mandel bread into biscotti-sized pieces and carefully roll each one into the cinnamon/sugar mixture. 7. Put the pieces back on the cookie sheet and bake for another 15 minutes at 250℉. I prefer softer mandel bread, so I bake for about 10 minutes. If the slices are big or wide, you might need longer than 15 minutes. Keep an eye on it because if it over bakes, it dries out quickly.

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1 cup white sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 cup chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl; set aside. Beat the eggs and sugar together in a mixing bowl until smooth. Whisk in the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and orange juice. Stir in the chocolate chips and the flour mixture until no dry lumps remain. Divide the cookie dough into two pieces. Form each piece into a roll about 3 inches wide and 12 inches long. Place the rolls, side by side, onto the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the rolls have started to brown, about 20 minutes. Remove the rolls from the oven onto a rack. Let cool about 10 minutes until cool enough to handle; cut the mandelbrot into 1/2-inch thick slices. Return the cookies to the baking sheet and lay them flat.
  • Return to the oven and bake until lightly golden, about 15 minutes more. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

1/4 lb butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
12 ounces chocolate chips (small bag)
1/3 cup chopped nuts (walnuts are fine)

Steps:

  • Blend butter, sugar & egg.
  • Mix in remaining ingredients, except chips & nuts.
  • Then add choc. chips & nuts.
  • Divide batter into fourths.
  • Spread on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • Pat into loaf & flatten down a little.
  • Cut into slices immediately.

I have been eating this since I was a child. My mom is still making it and now my kids beg me to make it too! One bowl makes this one of the easiest and best recipes of this type that I have ever made or eaten! ;)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3/4 cup oil (I use vegetable)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 ounces chocolate chips (or more if you like)

Steps:

  • Mix all of the above together except for the chocolate chips.
  • Then add chips and mix.
  • Separate dough into 2 balls.
  • Make 2 ovals on 2 separate cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Remove, lay cookie sheet on towel and slice through.
  • Return to oven for 10 more minutes.
  • Cool and Enjoy!
  • Over the years, friends have used various types of chips as others have become available. I still prefer good old semi-sweet morsels.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the nutmeg.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the melted butter, 1 cup of the sugar, the vanilla extract and almond extract. Beat on medium speed until combined. Add the eggs and continue beating on medium speed until thickened and pale yellow, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed until just incorporated, then mix in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using). Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill until firm, 1 to 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and set two oven racks in the centermost positions. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour and shape the dough into 2 logs about 2 inches wide, 13 inches long, and 1 inch tall. Place the logs on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until lightly golden, rotating the pans from top to bottom and front to back midway through. Remove the pans from the oven and place on cooling racks. Let the baked logs cool for 15 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 250°F.
