Categories     Desserts

Time 1h30m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 17

nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 ½ cups sour cream
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 ½ cups sour cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 pinch kosher salt
2 ¼ cups powdered sugar
⅔ cup cocoa powder

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Make the cake: Grease and line 2 8-inch (22 cm) round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric hand mixer on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and beat until fully incorporated.
  • Add the vanilla and sour cream and stir with a rubber spatula until starting to incorporate, then beat with the hand mixer until fully combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, beating between each addition until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cake comes out clean. Let cakes cool for 10 minutes in the pans, then invert onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
  • Make the frosting: Add the butter, sour cream, vanilla, and salt to a large bowl. Beat with an electric hand mixer on medium speed until well combined. Sift in the powdered sugar and cocoa powder and beat until well incorporated and the frosting is smooth.
  • Place 1 layer of cake on a cake stand or serving platter lined with strips of parchment paper (for easy removal). Spread ¾ cup frosting evenly over the cake. Place the other cake layer on top and use the rest of the frosting to frost the top and sides of the cake.
  • Slice and serve.
  • Enjoy!

THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE BY TASTY

The Best Chocolate Cake Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: flour, dutch processed cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, baking powder, stout, vanilla extract, espresso powder, butter, sugar, eggs, mayonnaise, dark chocolate, butter, vanilla extract, dutch processed cocoa powder, powdered sugar, milk, fresh fruit

Provided by Scott Loitsch

Categories     Bakery Goods

Time 1h20m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 ½ cups flour
1 cup dutch processed cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 ½ cups stout
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon espresso powder
1 cup butter
1 ½ cups sugar
3 eggs
½ cup mayonnaise
4 oz dark chocolate, chopped
1 ½ cups butter, softened
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
½ cup dutch processed cocoa powder
5 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons milk
fresh fruit, to decorate

Steps:

  • Grease and line three 8-inch (20 cm) cake tins with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a large glass measuring cup, combine the stout, vanilla, and espresso powder. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until it is light and fluffy, about 5 minutes, scraping down the sides occasionally to ensure all the ingredients are being evenly creamed together.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Add the mayonnaise and beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Preheat oven to 325˚F (160˚C).
  • Alternate adding the prepared dry and wet ingredients to the batter. Starting with about ⅓ of the dry ingredients, beat until incorporated. Then add ⅓ of the liquid ingredients, mixing until the batter comes together. Continue until all the wet and dry ingredients have been incorporated.
  • Using a rubber scraper, fold the dark chocolate chunks into the batter.
  • Distribute the batter evenly between the 3 prepared cake tins.
  • Bake for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Place the cakes on a cooling rack and leave to cool for about 10-15 minutes, until the outside of the pan is cool enough to touch.
  • Once the cakes have cooled, loosen the edges using a butter knife. Then place a large plate over the tin and invert to release the cake from the pan. Remove the parchment paper from the bottom of the cake and slide the cake back onto the cooling rack to cool completely. Repeat for the remaining two layers.
  • While your cakes are cooling, prepare the buttercream.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter and vanilla.
  • Gradually add in the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and milk, continuously beating until all the ingredients have been incorporated and the frosting is light and fluffy.
  • Frost and decorate to your liking.
  • Slice and serve.
  • Enjoy!

TACO GRAVEYARD DIP

Taco Graveyard Dip image

This taco dip is truly to die for! It's layered with seasoned ground beef, refried beans and all your favorite toppings. Use a variety of flavored tortillas for an array of colors and an assortment of small cookie cutters to create graveyard shapes and characters.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 45m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef (80/20)
One 1.25-ounce package taco seasoning mix or 3 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning
Two 16-ounce cans refried beans
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
4 ounces sour cream
1 1/2 cups mild salsa, store-bought or homemade
Six 8- or 10-inch flour tortillas, any flavor
1/2 small head iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
1/4 cup canned sliced black olives, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef, and cook, stirring occasionally, until completely browned, 5 to 7 minutes. Pour off any excess oil. Add about half of the taco seasoning and 1/2 cup water and stir until the beef is well coated. Cook until slightly thickened, 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and spread out evenly.
  • Return the skillet to the heat and add the refried beans. Cook until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Spread evenly over the ground beef mixture. Top the refried beans evenly with the shredded Cheddar.
  • Whisk together the cream cheese and sour cream in a medium bowl until smooth and combined. Transfer 2 tablespoons of the mixture to a small piping bag (or small resealable plastic bag) and reserve. Add the remaining taco seasoning to the remaining cream cheese mixture and stir to combine. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the shredded cheese layer. Top with the salsa and spread evenly. Refrigerate while you make the chips.
  • Lay one tortilla on a cutting board and trim into a tree with a paring knife. Transfer to one of the prepared baking sheets. Cut tombstones (and other Halloween shapes if you like) out of the remaining tortillas with 2-inch cutters or by hand. Arrange on the prepared baking sheets. Bake, flipping the tortillas halfway through, until crisp and golden brown, about 10 minutes. Let cool.
  • Pipe "RIP" on some of the tombstones with the reserved cream cheese mixture and press them into the taco dip. Press the tree and any remaining shapes into the taco dip.
  • Cut the lettuce into several pieces, add to a food processor and pulse until finely chopped (you should have about 2 cups total). Spread the lettuce and cilantro around the tortilla chips. Spoon mounds of black olives in front of some of the tombstones. Serve with the remaining chips.

MILK CHOCOLATE GRAVEYARD CAKE

Milk Chocolate Graveyard Cake image

Provided by Anne Thornton, Host of Dessert First

Time 2h35m

Yield 1 (9-inch) cake

Number Of Ingredients 30

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened, plus more for greasing pan
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (not Dutch-processed)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 eggs, at room temperature for 30 minutes
1/3 cup semisweet chocolate, melted and cooled
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups well-shaken buttermilk (or 1 cup milk plus 1 tablespoon lemon juice)
Milk Chocolate Buttercream, recipe follows
1/2 (9-ounce) box chocolate wafer cookies, crushed
1 tube black gel
1 bag chocolate sandwich cookies (recommended: Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies)
Chocolate Tree, recipe follows
Candy pumpkins
Candy Bones, recipe follows
Rock candy
5 sticks butter, cut into pieces, at room temperature
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
5 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
2 1/2 cups milk chocolate, melted and cooled
1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter, melted
18 pretzel sticks
36 mini-marshmallows

Steps:

  • For the cake: Put a rack in the middle of the oven and preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter 2 (9 by 2-inch) nonstick round cake pans. Line the bottom of each with a round of parchment paper, and then butter the paper.
  • Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt together onto parchment paper. With an electric mixer on medium-high speed, cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, 4 or 5 minutes. Add your eggs, 1 at a time, mixing until completely incorporated before adding each additional egg. Mix in the chocolate and vanilla, making sure to combine really well. Turn the mixer to low and slowly add the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, in 3 batches, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Make sure to let it mix thoroughly.
  • Pour half the batter in each pan and spread evenly with a spatula or butter knife. Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Remove the pans to racks and allow the cakes to cool for 10 minutes or so. Loosen the edges of the cake from the pan with a knife, then turn them onto the racks. Remove the paper and let the cakes completely cool.
  • To assemble: Put some Milk Chocolate Buttercream on top of 1 cake layer, pushing out to the sides a bit. Sprinkle some ground up chocolate wafers on top. Place the other cake layer on top and flip it over so the flat surface is up. Ice with the rest of the buttercream. Don't try to make it perfectly smooth, the more bumpy it is the better, we're creating a graveyard!
  • With your black gel, write out RIP on the chocolate sandwich cookies to make them look like gravestones.
  • Sprinkle more ground wafers on top of the cake to look like dirt. Pat some more around the sides. Take your chocolate tree and put right through the cake in the back. Add some gravestones and some pumpkins. And the chocolate bones, pressing into the sides like an X. Arrange chunks of rock candy around.
  • Combine the butter, salt and 2 cups of the confectioners' sugar in a mixer with the whisk attachment. Beat until light and fluffy. Add the melted chocolates, vanilla and the remaining 3 cups sugar. Whisk on medium-high until smooth and fluffy.
  • Put the chips in a heatproof glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir to melt. Fill a zip top bag with the melted chocolate and pipe it out on a baking sheet lined with foil in the shape of a tree. Let cool.
  • Put the chips in a heatproof glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir to melt. Add the melted butter to the chips to make the mixture more workable. Take your pretzel stick and push a marshmallow on each side. Coat in the white chocolate, and let dry on parchment paper.
