Delightful mix of chocolate and cherries! I love this change from regular brownies. A friend gave me this recipe....don't know where she got it from!

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 (16 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained
2/3 cup butter
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsel
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup pecans, chopped (optional)
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsel
2 teaspoons shortening

Steps:

  • Cut 12 cherries in half, and set aside. Chop the remaining cherries, and set aside.
  • Combine butter and 1/2 cup chocolate morsels in top of a double boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook until the butter and chocolate melt, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, and let cool slightly.
  • Combine the flour and next 3 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; stir well and set aside.
  • Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla to reserved chocolate mixture, stirring with a wire whisk until blended. Add to the reserved flour mixture, beating at low speed of an electric mixer until blended. Stir in reserved chopped cherries and pecans (pecans are optional).
  • Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 28 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Cut into squares, and top each square with a reserved cherry half.
  • Combine 1/2 cup chocolate morsels and shortening in the top of a double boiler; bring water to a boiil. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate and shortening melt, stirring occasionally. Drizzle over the brownies.

2 cups Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips (divided)
2/3 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup unsifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup Quicker Quaker Oats
2/3 cup maraschino cherry, Chopped (divided)
1/2 cup walnuts or 1/2 cup pecans, Chopped
2 teaspoons vegetable shortening

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • In 2-quart heavy saucepan on low heat, melt 1 cup chocolate chips with butter, stirring constantly; remove from heat. Stir in sugar, eggs and vanilla.
  • Gradually add flour, baking powder and salt to chocolate mixture. Fold in oats, nuts, 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/3 cup chopped cherries.
  • Spread into greased 9 x 13" pan.
  • Bake at 350 F for about 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool on rack.
  • Cut brownies 4 by 6 across pan to make 24 squares.
  • Sprinkle remaining chopped cherries over top.
  • In small heavy saucepan on low heat, melt remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and shortening, stirring constantly.
  • Drizzle chocolate over top of brownies to make a lacey pattern.
  • Chill about 15 minutes to set chocolate. Recut brownies.

1 box (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Supreme original brownie mix
Water, vegetable oil and egg called for on brownie mix box
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup coarsely chopped maraschino cherries, drained, patted dry
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped maraschino cherries, drained, patted dry

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease bottom of 9-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  • Mix brownie batter as directed on box. Stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/4 cup cherries. Spread in pan.
  • Bake 28 to 31 minutes or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips over top of baked brownies; cool 30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle 2 tablespoons cherries over top. In small microwavable bowl, microwave remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips uncovered on High 30 to 60 seconds, stirring halfway through, until chips can be stirred smooth. Spoon into resealable food-storage plastic bag; partially seal bag. Cut small tip from corner of bag; drizzle chocolate over top. Let stand about 2 hours or until chocolate is set. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows. Store loosely covered in refrigerator.

1 ½ cups white sugar
½ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups pitted sour cherries

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Mix sugar, oil, and almond extract together in a large bowl until well blended.
  • Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in another bowl; stir into sugar mixture until combined. Beat in 1/2 of the cherries using an electric mixer until moistened. Fold in remaining cherries. Pour batter into the prepared pan.

We can't recall where we got the original recipe for this - but it helped us use up excess chillies from the garden. We've eaten it cold, but warmed slightly and served with ice cream and cream is also delicious.

200 g dark chocolate, chopped
125 g butter, chopped
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 cup plain flour, sifted
1 1/2 cups pitted cherries
1/2 cup almond meal
cocoa powder, for dusting
1 long red chili, seeded, chopped (or more if you like it hot!)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to slow, 150 Celsius. Lightly grease a 18 x 28 cm pan. Line with baking paper, extending paper 2cm above pan edge.
  • Using a double boiler (or small glass bowl over pot of water) combine chocolate, butter, sugar and chilli. Stir over low heat until smooth. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Lightly blend cherries, flour, almond meal and eggs until well combined. Pour mixture into pan, smoothing top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until cooked when tested with a skewer (check 5 minutes earlier for fan forced oven.).
  • Slice into squares, dust with cocoa powder and serve.
  • Options for variations: Add ½ cup crushed peanuts with flour and almond meal. Replace dark chocolate with white chocolate. Replace cherries with mulberries.
