Cabbage is a very Southern dish. People who don't even like cabbage love this recipe. This goulash is good served with French bread or hard rolls, and I usually make a pot of pinto beans to go along with it.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
10 cups shredded cabbage

Steps:

  • In a large kettle, cook the sausage, beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until cabbage is tender.

Cabbage, onion and tomato along with ground beef and sausage come together for a protein-packed bowl that's as comforting as it is filling.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 can (28 ounce size) diced tomatoes, drained, liquid reserved
1 can (6 ounce size) tomato paste
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper, optional
10 cups shredded cabbage

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage, beef, and onion. Cook, stirring frequently, until the meat is browned. Drain off any excess grease. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper. Mix well. Stir in the cabbage and reserved liquid from the tomatoes. Mix well. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover the skillet and let simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.

This cabbage goulash recipe is hearty, filling, and sure to be a family pleaser. This version of American goulash is an easy one pot meal that uses cabbage rather than noodles.

2 pounds ground beef
3 teaspoons minced garlic
1 large yellow onion (diced)
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup beef broth
1/3 cup olive oil
2 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
2 15 ounce cans diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme.
1/4 teaspoon dried basil.
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary.
1/4 teaspoon dried sage.
1 tablespoon Adobo Seasoning
3 bay leaves
1/2 tablespoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1-1/2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a large pan, saute your ground meat in skillet over medium-high heat until about half cooked.
  • Add garlic, onions, olive oil & until meat is fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  • Add water and broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, italian seasoning, bay leaves, and seasoned salt, pepper and adobo seasoning. Mix well.
  • Lower heat and cover - allow to cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Stir in the cabbage, and let simmer for about 5 minutes (for more crunchy texture) to 10 minutes (for softer texture).
  • Remove from heat and remove the bay leaves.
  • Stir in cheddar cheese and serve.
