1 1/2 lbs broccoli, florets and stems sliced into diagonal pieces
1 1/2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • Saute the broccoli over medium heat in sesame oil for 8 minutes.
  • While broccoli is cooking, stir together the soy sauce, ginger, and sugar, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Add the soy mixture to the broccoli along with the water, cover and simmer for 2 minutes more.
  • Serve at once.

4 bunches broccoli
1/4 pound butter
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Trim bottom inch off broccoli stalks and discard. Cut each stalk crosswise into 3 pieces.
  • Cut topmost piece of each stalk into small flowerets. Cut remaining pieces into fine julienne. Put all into cold water for at least 1/2 hour to refresh them.
  • Bring suitably large steamer of water to boil, add all broccoli and steam, covered, for 5 minutes, tossing from top to bottom a few times.
  • When just barely tender, remove to collander, spray liberally with cold water and drain.
  • When ready to serve, melt butter in skillet and toss broccoli with salt and pepper to taste, until heated through.

2 heads broccoli (about 2 pounds), florets separated, stalks trimmed, peeled, and thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
1 piece fresh ginger (1 inch long), peeled and slivered
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
coarse salt and ground pepper

Steps:

  • In a large skillet with a lid, heat oil over medium; add broccoli, garlic, and ginger. Cook until broccoli is bright green and ginger is fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup water; cover, and cook until broccoli is crisp-tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from heat; add lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper; toss to combine. Serve.

2 Tbsp orange marmalade
1 Tbsp butter
1/2 tsp cider vinegar
1/8 tsp ground ginger

Steps:

  • 1. Steam broccoli spears until tender - do not overcook.
  • 2. Combine marmalade, butter, vinegar and ginger in a small saucepan. Cook until marmalade and butter are melted.
  • 3. Drain broccoli and place on a platter. Drizzle marmalade mixture over broccoli.
