- Apply finely chopped comfrey root to the boil.
- Mix 4 oz sublimed sulphur with 16 oz honey. Take 1 teaspoon internally at bedtime.
- Make a liniment from black oitment. (doesn't say what black oitment is)
- Drink red clover blossom tea
- Make a poultice from linseed oil, honey, and flour and apply to boil
- Take caparrel leaf capsules.
- here are two recipes that are used for this: **************** Poultice for sores and boils 1/2 cup beeswax grated fine 1 cup lard (Goose in best) 1 teaspoon powdered resin. Melt together slowly over stove then cool before applying. **************** Green Mountain Salve 1 oz resin 1 oz beeswax 4 oz mutton tallow ** Heat until melted then add 1 dram vertergris allow to cool then roll and flatten to apply to the wound **(Mutton tallow is a natural product with a relatively long shelf life. As a skin care product, it penetrates the skin, providing more softening power than petroleum-based products, which sit on top of the skin. )
BREAD POULTICE
A bread poultice is a nice easy way to get thorns or glass out of a child's foot. Much better than fighting a screaming child with a needle. I never let anyone near me with a needle when I was a kid! Works best when you use Daddy's handkerchief, lots of love and words like "poor soldier, been in the wars, have you?"

Steps:
- First clean the wound.
- Fold the handkerchief along the diagonal.
- Place the bread on the handkerchief.
- Pour boiling water over the bread to thoroughly wet the bread but not dripping wet.
- As soon as the bread has cooled enough to be put against the skin, place over the thorn or glass. If you get the child to do this themselves then they won't get scalded.
- Tie the ends of the handkerchief around the foot to keep it in place and elevate the foot. Again, let the child decide when they can tolerate it. Encourage them try to do it as soon as they can put up with the heat. The hotter, the better.
- When the bread is cold, wring out the water and repeat with more boiling water until the offending object it ejected from the skin.
