BBQ TURNOVERS

BBQ Turnovers image

These BBQ turnovers look as good as they taste! They are a simple idea and take just a little time to put together. They reminded us of a cheese sloppy joe in a buttery biscuit turnover. Saucy and cheesy, they're going to be a big hit in your kitchen. It's a fun recipe to prepare with kids, too. Just make sure to pinch these together well to seal and then seal with the fork.

Provided by Brenda Jucknies @CRAZYABOUTDESSERT

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/4 cup(s) bbq sauce (little less or more to your taste)
2 pound(s) hamburger meat
- chopped onion (I used half of one)
3 can(s) biscuits
1 package(s) sandwich Velveeta cheese slices cut in fours for each slice
4-5 tablespoon(s) brown sugar, to your taste
- flour to roll biscuits out on

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef and onions together and drain.
  • Add bbq sauce and brown sugar to beef mixture.
  • Stir really well.
  • While meat is cooking take biscuits and a little flour and roll out biscuits to form circles (not too thin).
  • Then put a tablespoon of beef on them and then a little square of Velveeta slice.
  • Fold biscuit over to make a turnover. Then take fork dipped in water and go along the edges to close. Lay on cookie sheet that has been sprayed with Pam or lined with parchment paper.
  • Cook in 325 oven that has been preheated for 12-15 minutes until a light golden brown!! This made 30 turnovers, with some left to make a sandwich for my son. They are even better the next day heated in the microwave.

Categories     Desserts     Fruit Dessert Recipes     Apple Dessert Recipes

Time 55m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 tablespoons lemon juice
4 cups water
4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
1 (17.25 ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine the lemon and 4 cups water in a large bowl. Place the sliced apples in the water to keep them from browning.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain water from apples, and place them into the hot skillet. Cook and stir for about 2 minutes. Add brown sugar, and cinnamon, and cook, stirring, for 2 more minutes. Stir together cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Pour into the skillet, and mix well. Cook for another minute, or until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat to cool slightly.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Unfold puff pastry sheets, and repair any cracks by pressing them back together. Trim each sheet into a square. Then cut each larger square into 4 smaller squares. Spoon apples onto the center of each squares. Fold over from corner to corner into a triangle shape, and press edges together to seal. Place turnovers on a baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
  • Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until turnovers are puffed and lightly browned. Cool completely before glazing.
  • To make the glaze, mix together the confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla in a small bowl. Adjust the thickness by adding more sugar or milk if necessary. Drizzle glaze over the cooled turnovers.

TURKEY AND BISCUIT TURNOVERS

Turkey and Biscuit Turnovers image

From Evelyn Tribole's Healthy Homestyle Cooking. My whole family gave this high marks. I couldn't find whole grain biscuit dough, so I just used 9 oz of lowfat biscuit dough instead. I also used ff cream of chicken soup instead of the mushroom. The cookbook gives the stats as: 366 calories, 9 g fat per serving

Provided by wife2abadge

Categories     Turkey Breasts

Time 45m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoons soft-style light cream cheese
2 tablespoons 98% fat-free cream of mushroom soup, with 1/3 less salt
2 tablespoons evaporated skim milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3 cups turkey breast, cooked and diced
1 tablespoon onion, shredded
1 (9 ounce) can refrigerated whole wheat biscuit dough
1 egg white, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons fine seasoned dry bread crumbs

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese, condensed soup, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Add the turkey and onions and mix well.
  • Separate the refrigerated dough into eight biscuits; roll two biscuits together to make a ball (so you have four balls total).
  • Use a rolling pin and roll each ball into a 6-inch circle (I rolled between sheets of parchment to prevent sticking -- worked like a charm).
  • Spoon about 3/4 cup of turkey mixture onto half of each circle and fold it over to make a turnover.
  • Seal the edges with the tines of a fork.
  • Brush the tops with egg white and sprinkle with bread crumbs.
  • Transfer turnover to a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
