BASIL LIMEADE

Yield 1 1/2 cups syrup

Number Of Ingredients 4

zest of two limes
juice of two limes plus enough water to make a full cup
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • Combine the zest, juice/water, and sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the basil. Allow to cool to room temperature. Strain into a jar and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • To serve, fill a 16-ounce glass with ice. Add 1/4 cup syrup. Fill glass with seltzer, club soda, or water and stir to combine.

3 cups warm water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp lime zest
1 cup lime juice
1 cup basil leaves

Steps:

  • In a large pitcher combine the water, sugar and lime zest and stir to combine. Add the lime juice and basil leave and let the mixture marinate for at least 2 hours. Pour the mixture through a strainer into another pitcher. Add ice and serve.

BLUEBERRY-BASIL LIMEADE

1 cup sugar
3 sprigs fresh basil, plus basil leaves, for garnish
1 1/2 cups fresh lime juice (from about 12 limes)
One 6-ounce container blueberries
Gin, for serving, optional

Steps:

  • Place the sugar, basil sprigs and 1 cup of water into a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring every so often, until the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let steep for 30 minutes.
  • Discard the basil and pour the syrup into a pitcher. Stir in the lime juice and 4 cups of cold water. Add the blueberries and chill for at least 4 hours or until ready to serve.
  • To serve, put some ice in a glass, pour over the limeade and garnish with basil leaves. To make into a cocktail, add ice to a rocks glass and top with 1 1/2 ounces gin. Top off with the limeade and garnish with basil.

I tweaked this recipe it to make a refreshing drink. I love basil and this recipe has a wonderful basil-infused flavor. Delicious on a warm day or with grilled chicken. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh basil and lemon slices.

12 cups cold water
1 (12 ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
⅓ cup white sugar
¼ cup fresh lime juice
½ cup firmly packed torn basil leaves

Steps:

  • Stir water, lemonade, sugar, and lime juice together in a pitcher. Add 1/2 cup basil leaves, stir to combine, cover the pitcher, and refrigerate until flavors combine, 8 hours to overnight. Remove basil leaves and discard.
