Every Southern family has a sweet tea recipe, and this one is ours. It's as Southern as a biscuit, great with any dish from apple pie to baked ziti, and should always be available in the fridge.

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 Luzianne® Family Size Iced Tea bags
1 gallon (16 cups) of cold spring water or filtered water, divided into 2 (8-cup) portions
1 cup granulated sugar, or to taste
Lemon wheels, orange wedges, or mint sprigs or leaves for garnish, optional

Steps:

  • In a pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil; remove from heat Add tea bags and allow to steep for 3-5 minutes depending on the strength of tea you prefer. Remove tea bags and stir sugar into warm tea; continue to stir until completely dissolved. Pour concentrated tea into pitcher and mix in remaining 8 cups water. Allow to cool to room temperature. Pour into glasses packed with ice cubes, garnish and serve. For best flavor, refrigerate and use within 48 hours.

Here in the South, we love our iced tea. Here is just a basic, simple recipe for making ice tea the way that I was taught by my mother and grandmother. You can add lemon or any other flavors that you like to this wonderful, basic recipe. Hope y'all enjoy!

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 large tea bag (gallon sized)
4 to 6 cup(s) water
1 1/2 to 2 cup(s) sugar (you may also use splenda)
SPECIAL NOTE: IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE GALLON SIZED BAGS, YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE 10 INDIVIDUAL SIZED TEA BAGS.

Steps:

  • Add water and tea bag(s) to a medium sized saucepan and bring to a boil. When water and tea bag comes to full, rolling boil, remove from heat and steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • While tea is steeping, add sugar/Splenda to a gallon sized pitcher. After tea has finished steeping, remove tea bag and pour concentrated tea into pitcher. Add cold water to finish filling pitcher and stir well. Add ice, lemon or other flavorings and enjoy!
  • Special Note: I make this tea using Splenda because my husband is diabetic and can't have the sugary kind. It still tastes great, but if you add lemon, you may not need to add quite as much.

This is how my Granny made sweet tea and it is some kind of sweet. Know that and beware. Pa-Paw used to down 2-3 glasses after working in the garden all day. Back off the sugar if you can't handle it. This one is for true southerners only ;)

6 regular tea bags
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups boiling water
1 1/2-2 cups sugar
6 cups cold water

Steps:

  • In a large glass measuring cup, place the tea bags and add the baking soda.
  • Pour the boiling water over the tea bags.
  • Cover and steep for 15 minutes.
  • Take out the tea bags and do not squeeze them.
  • Pour the tea mixture into a 2-quart pitcher; add the sugar.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add in the cold water.
  • Let cool; chill in the refrigerator and serve over ice.

A delicious sweet tea recipe that I've been using for years. I always get compliments. It's super fast & super easy. This recipe is to make ONE GALLON.

1 family-size tea bags or 3 -4 regular tea bags
3 -4 cups sugar
hot water
cold water

Steps:

  • Place family size tea bag in a microwave safe container filled with water & microwave until it boils (approx. 4min for 4cups).
  • While that is going, in a gallon size pitcher, pour about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of sugar in the bottom. I usually eye it and it comes out perfect.
  • The microwave should be finishing up. Pour hot tea water into the pitcher over the sugar. The hot water dissolves the sugar granuals. Stir until completely dissolved. (If you have time, let sit in microwave for a while and steep even more. If you don't have time, that's cool too.).
  • Fill the rest with cold water & refrigerate.
  • Serve over ice. Enjoy!

  • I, personally, don't put lemon in it because I find that lemon cuts the sugar & you have to use a whole lot more sugar for it to be southern "sweet".
