Apple Halwa in an Indian dessert made with grated apples, sugar and ghee!

2 apples (large [around 1.5 cups grated apples])
1.5 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
¼ cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
¼ + ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon powder
¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
⅛ teaspoon nutmeg powder
sliced almonds (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Wash the apples and peel them.
  • Cut into slices and run them into a food processor till the apples are well grind. Few pieces are ok.
  • In a pan heat ghee on medium heat. Once hot, add the apples.
  • Cook the apples till all the water is evaporated, this took me around 7-8 minutes.
  • Now add sugar and mix. Also add cinnamon powder, nutmeg and cardamom powder.
  • As the sugar melts, the halwa will again become liquidy.
  • Cook for 5 minutes stirring continuously till all water evaporates.
  • Garnish with sliced almonds and serve hot.

1 cup apple grated
1 cup milk
2 teaspoon Milk powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ghee
1 handful saffron
1 teaspoon green cardamom powdered
1 handful almonds
1 handful cashews
1 handful pistachios

Steps:

  • For preparing this amazing halwa, wash the apples and grate them in a bowl. To avoid discolouration, transfer the grated apples immediately into the milk.
  • Put a kadhai on a low-medium flame and add ghee to it. When it starts melting, add the milk and apple mixture in it along with saffron and bring it to a boil.
  • The milk will start curdling due to the sourness of the apple. Continue stirring the mixture.
  • When the apple and milk mixture becomes dry, add sugar to it and stir continuously to avoid forming lumps.
  • When the halwa starts leaving the sides of the kadhai, add milk powder in it along with cardamom powder. Stir it continuously.
  • When the whole milk has dried up, remove it from kadai and transfer the halwa to a bowl. Garnish with dry fruits. Serve hot.

Apple halwa recipe made with apples, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Apple halwa is a delicious halwa that is easy to make. This apple halwa does not use sooji (rava), milk, khoya or milk powder. Just apples, sugar (optional) and ghee. Flavorings and nuts of your choice can be added to the halwa.

1 kilogram apple (or 7 to 8 medium sized apples or 7 cups chopped apples)
5 tablespoons sugar (or add as required - optional)
3 tablespoons Ghee
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder ((ground cinnamon))
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or ½ teaspoon vanilla essence)
10 almonds (- chopped)
10 cashews (- chopped)

Steps:

  • Rinse 1 kg apples (7 to 8 medium-sized apples) very well in water using a colander. Drain all the water. Then peel each apple.
  • Quarter them and slice off the part containing seeds and pith.
  • Then chop the apples in small cubes. You will need 7 cups chopped apples.
  • Heat a heavy kadai or pan and keep the heat to medium-low. Add 2 tablespoons ghee in the kadai and let it melt.
  • Add the chopped apples.
  • Mix it with the ghee and begin to saute the apples on a low to medium-low flame for some 5 to 6 minutes. Some apples will soften and some won't.
  • Then add 2 tablespoons water. Mix again.
  • Cover the kadai or pan cook for 12 to 15 minutes. stir at intervals.
  • On a low to medium-low heat cook covered with the lid till all the apples have softened and become mushy. The apples mixture will start to thicken.
  • With a spoon or potato masher, mash the cooked apples and keep on stirring so that the mixture does not stick to the bottom of the pan. You could keep some small chunk sized pieces if you want.
  • Then add sugar. Tangy apples will require more sugar. So amount of sugar to be added depends upon the sweetness of the apples. mix well.
  • Stirring often cook till some ghee can be seen at the sides for about 9 to 10 minutes on a low to medium-low heat. At this point, there should be no bubbling of apple juices in the halwa.
  • Then add cinnamon powder. Apples and cinnamon together are a wonderful combination.
  • Next add vanilla extract.
  • Add chopped nuts. Also keep a few chopped nuts aside for garnish.
  • Mix very well. Check the taste of halwa and if required add some more sugar.
  • Sauté stirring often for 3 to 4 minutes till the apple halwa mixture starts coming together and pulls away from the sides of the kadai or pan.
  • Serve apple halwa hot or warm garnished with some chopped nuts. Leftover halwa can be refrigerated. Stays good for a week.

Steps:

  • firstly, cut the apples and grate. you can alternatively blend to smooth paste.
  • in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp ghee and roast 8 cashew.
  • roast to golden brown on low flame, keep aside.
  • add in grated apple and mix well.
  • keep stirring until the juice from apple is released.
  • continue to cook until the mixture thickens and softens.
  • further, add ¼ cup sugar. you can increase the amount of sugar to your choice.
  • also, add ¼ tsp saffron food colour and mix well.
  • keep stirring and the sugar dissolves.
  • cook on medium flame, until the halwa thickens.
  • further, cook until the halwa separates from the pan.
  • now add 1 tsp vanilla extract, ¼ tsp cinnamon powder and fried cashews. mix well.
  • finally, enjoy apple halwa garnished with more cashew.
