These Classic Sloppy Joes are made with just a few simple ingredients and can be served as a sandwich or used as a topping on a baked potato or sweet potato.

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 medium onion (chopped)
1/2 cup celery (finely chopped)
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
2 TablespoonS brown sugar
1/2 Tablespoon dry mustard (or substitute regular mustard)
1/2 cup ketchup
Salt and Pepper to taste
1/3 cup water

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef over medium heat in a flat bottomed skilled.
  • When the meat is pink and slightly under-cooked, add the onion and celery; finish browning the ground beef.
  • Drain off grease if needed.
  • Mix remaining ingredients and add to skillet.
  • Cook for 20-25 minutes over low heat until sauce thickens, stirring often.

Steps:

  • Brown 1 pound ground beef in a large skillet with olive oil. Add 1 chopped onion, 3 chopped garlic cloves, 2 teaspoons each ground cumin and smoked paprika and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper; cook 1 minute. Stir in 1 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1/2 cup water and simmer until thick, about 15 minutes. Serve on slider rolls with potato chips.

1 small onion, chopped
⅓ cup chopped green pepper
1 pound lean ground beef
1 ½ cups Heinz Tomato Ketchup
1 tablespoon Heinz Worcestershire Sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
8 sandwich buns

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a large frying pan set over medium-high heat. Saute onions and green pepper for 5 minutes.
  • Add beef to the pan. Cook, stirring until browned, about 5 to 10 minutes. Drain off fat.
  • Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Serve on sandwich buns.

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1/2 cup tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon celery salt or celery seed
1 teaspoon onion salt or onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1-1/2 bay leaves
8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, cook beef and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes., Uncover; cook 30-40 minutes longer or until thickened. Discard bay leaves. Serve 1/2 cup of meat mixture on each bun.

1/2 cup fine chopped yellow onion
1/2 cup fine chopped green pepper
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon dried mustard
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 (26 ounce) bottle catsup
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
8 -10 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Brown the ground chuck and onion in a large deep skillet.
  • Drain the grease from the skillet as well as possible.
  • Add the green pepper to the meat and onion and continue cooking until the green pepper is soft.
  • Add all the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Serve on buns.
