WIENER GRAVY

Wiener Gravy image

Hot dogs come in packs of 10 but buns come in packs of 8. So what do you do with the 2 lonely leftover dogs?? Make Weiner Gravy the next morning for breakfast.

Provided by Rhonda Sine

Categories     Other Main Dishes

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

wieners
oil, bacon grease or a combo of both
flour
water, milk or a combo of both
salt & pepper

Steps:

  • 1. In a skillet, heat your oil or grease over medium heat. If you want it to taste mild, use oil. If you want it to have a stronger pork taste, use some bacon grease. I like to use a little of both. How much you use will depends on how many wieners you have. For 2 wieners I use about 1 T. of oil, 1 T. of bacon grease and 2 T. of flour (later in recipe). Slice wieners into coins into grease. Fry until desired crispness...I like mine about half crispy. Sprinkle flour on top of wieners and stir (should be the consistency of wet sand) and fry for a few minutes until flour starts to get a nice tan color. A little at a time while constantly stirring, add your liquid. If you want a stronger taste, use water. If you like a creamier taste, use milk, or some of both. How much will depend on how much grease you started with, but for what I've told you already will probably be around 2 cups. Cook and stir until bubbly and desired thickness. Season with salt and pepper. Serve over biscuits, toast or your favorite bread.

COCKTAIL WIENERS

Cocktail Wieners image

A sweet and savory treat for any get-together that will sure be a crowd pleaser. It's cheap and easy to make in a slow cooker with only three ingredients. I make this for any get-together and it is always a hit! I was a little unsure at first about the grape jelly concoction, but I tried it and have never done it any other way. It is so savory with just enough sweet. I always receive or over hear lots of agreement with the taste of the sauce. It always disappears at parties, and the next day I have cravings for these cocktail wienies. Try it for your next potluck, back yard BBQ, or any event!

SOUR WIENER GRAVY

Sour Wiener Gravy image

Sour Wiener Gravy is gravy made with "store bought" gingersnaps, sliced all beef wieners, chopped onion, vinegar, water, salt and pepper, and once thickened, served over mashed potatoes. The brands of store bought gingersnaps I have used to make this dish are... Rippin Good, Stauffer's, or Lil' Dutch Maid. (Lil' Dutch Maid are the least expensive, and I purchased them at the Dollar Tree.)

Provided by Cindi M Bauer

Categories     Pork

Time 30m

Yield 12-14 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

5 3/4 cups cold water
1 onion, finely chopped (use small to medium size onion)
salt and pepper, season according to taste
33 gingersnap cookies (See *Note)
1 1/2 cups 5% white distilled vinegar
2 lbs thinly sliced all beef wieners
hot-cooked mashed potatoes

Steps:

  • In a large deep 12-inch skillet, combine the water, onion, salt and pepper, plus the gingersnaps. (You can also prepare this dish in a chicken fryer, with a lid, which is what I do).
  • Stir gently until the gingersnaps have dissolved.
  • Add the vinegar and sliced wieners.
  • Heat over medium-low heat, until it almost boils and is somewhat thick.
  • (When preparing this in a chicken fryer, I cook this over high heat; stirring frequently, until it comes to a boil and the gravy has thickened up, (in about 10 minutes) and after that, I lower the heat to a simmer, and cook/simmer the dish just a bit longer, for about 10-15 minutes longer).
  • Serve over the hot-cooked mashed potatoes.
  • *Note: When adding the gingersnap cookies, be sure to only use the store brands that I had suggested. Do not use home-baked cookies for this recipe.

WIENER OR JAEGER SCHNITZEL

Wiener or Jaeger Schnitzel image

What's not to like about meat pounded tender and thin, dipped in egg and flour, and fried to a golden brown? Adapted from Black Forest Mill German Restaurant

Provided by JackieOhNo

Categories     Veal

Time 1h

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 lb veal cutlets (for Wiener schnitzel) or 1 lb pork cutlet (for jaeger schnitzel)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup fine dry breadcrumb
1/2-1 cup canola oil
lemons, cut into wedges (for Wiener schnitzel) or german gravy (for jaeger schnitzel)
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 cups homemade beef broth or 1 1/2 cups canned beef broth
salt & freshly ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 onion, diced
1 medium tomatoes, diced
1 lb fresh mushrooms

Steps:

  • Trim excess fat from veal or pork. Place cutlets between 2 sheets of waxed paper; flatten to one-eighth- to one-quarter-inch thickness. Combine flour and pepper in a shallow dish. Mix egg and buttermilk in another shallow dish. Coat cutlets with flour mixture, dredge in egg, then coat with bread crumbs. Let rest for 15 minutes.
  • Heat large skillet on medium. Add oil; when hot, carefully add cutlets. Cook 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until browned. Transfer to a platter. Garnish Wiener schnitzel with lemon wedges and serve. Serve jaeger schnitzel with German gravy.
  • To make German gravy: In a large saute pan, melt butter on medium-low heat until liquefied.
  • Slowly whisk in flour, stirring constantly until the mixture resembles dough and is dark brown.
  • Slowly add broth in small amounts, stirring constantly. Add salt, pepper, nutmeg, onion, tomato and mushrooms, and reduce heat to low.
  • Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes, or until vegetables are soft.
