1/2 head of cabbage, shredded
1 shallot, thinly sliced
2 avocados, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup olive oil mayonnaise
1/4 cup wasabi mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lime juice
3/4 cup roughly chopped cilantro
Salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a large serving bowl. Stir until ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
  • Refrigerate wasabi coleslaw until it's time to serve.

This is an interesting salad. Wasabi is Japanese horseradish. I found this recipe for someone requesting in Recipe Request. You could probably add a little lime juice too to jazz up the flavors. It would go great with grilled salmon or tuna.

2 tablespoons wasabi powder
2 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
2 cups chopped Chinese cabbage (napa) or 2 cups savoy cabbage
1 cup chopped red radish
1/2 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup roasted salted sunflower seeds

Steps:

  • In 1-cup glass measure or small jar, combine wasabi with water; let stand 10 minutes.
  • Add vinegar, oil, brown sugar and sesame seeds.
  • (This can be made ahead to allow flavors to blend.) Toss dressing with cabbage, radishes, cucumber and sunflower kernels.

1 10oz.bag ready-made cole slaw; 1 tsp. soy sauce; 1 tsp. wasabi paste; 3 TB rice vinegar; 1 TB sugar; couple dashes sesame oil; green onion thinly sliced and sesame seeds as garnish

  • Mix all ingredients in small bowl well until sugar is dissolved and wasabe paste is fully mixed in; mix with coleslaw just before serving; garnish with green onion and sesame seeds

This is courtesy of McCormick's website. It's a great side dish for any grilled meat. It could also be combined with strips of any fish or meat to make a complete meal. It's not overly hot or spicy, the flavors meld together nicely. I use English/seedless cucumbers so I don't have to seed them. I also make it ahead, over and put in refridgerator at least 30 minutes ahead so the flavors can combine. A mandoline makes slicing the vegetables happen in seconds.

1 tablespoon wasabi paste
4 teaspoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup bok choy, sliced thin
1 cup napa cabbage, sliced thin
1 small red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1/2 small cucumber, unpeeled, quartered lengthwise, seeded and thinly slice

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl combine wasabi, vinegar, brown sugar, oil, ginger and salt.
  • In a large bowl toss together bok choy, Napa cabbage, bell pepper and cucumber.
  • Add dressing; toss to coat.
  • Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

6 cups green cabbage (approximately 1/2 head) or 6 cups savoy cabbage, thinly sliced (approximately 1/2 head)
1 cup shredded carrot
1/2 cup red cabbage, shredded (my addition)
4 tablespoons green onions, sliced
1/4 cup cilantro, minced (my addition)
2 1/2 teaspoons water
5 teaspoons wasabi powder
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar or 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar (is using rice wine vinegar omit sugar)
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup grapeseed oil or 1/4 cup vegetable oil
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
black sesame seed (optional)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl combine the water and wasabi powder. Mix until a paste forms. Set aside.
  • In another small non-reactive bowl whisk together the vinegar and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  • Whisk in the mayonnaise and oil.
  • Add the wasabi paste, salt and pepper. Mix well.
  • Important: *Allow mixture to stand 10-15 minutes.*.
  • In a large salad bowl, combine the cabbage, carrots, scallions and cilantro if using.
  • Just before serving the salad, add the dressing and stir well to combine.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds, if desired.
