Perfect Steakhouse Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes is a classic side dish. They are perfectly creamy with a punch of garlic flavor. This recipe will make you feel like you are eating in a restaurant!

6 cups chicken broth
5 pounds red potatoes (unpeeled)
5 cloves garlic (whole)
½ cup salted butter
4 ounces cream cheese
½ cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a large pot over high heat.
  • Meanwhile, cut the unpeeled potatoes into 1 inch cubes or chunks. Place the potatoes chunks and garlic cloves into the boiling chicken broth and boil until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
  • Strain the potatoes from the broth and put the cooked potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
  • Add in the butter, cream cheese, buttermilk, and salt. Use a masher to mash the potatoes and other ingredients until everything is melted, combined, and completely mashed.

8 potatoes, peeled and quartered
½ cup milk
¼ cup butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt to taste
1 pinch ground white pepper
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to boil; add potatoes, and boil until soft, about 20 to 25 minutes. Drain, and place in a large bowl.
  • Combine potatoes with milk, butter, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix with an electric mixer or potato masher to your desired consistency. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

1 whole garlic bulb
1 teaspoon plus 1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
1 medium white onion, chopped
4 medium potatoes, peeled and quartered
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup 2% milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Remove papery outer skin from garlic (do not peel or separate cloves). Cut top off of garlic bulb. Brush with 1 teaspoon oil. Wrap bulb in heavy-duty foil. Bake at 425° for 30-35 minutes or until softened.
  • 2. Meanwhile, in a large skillet over low heat, cook onion in remaining oil for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Transfer to a food processor. Cover and process until blended; set aside.
  • 3. Place potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Drain. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Squeeze softened garlic into bowl; add the butter, sour cream, cheese, milk, salt, pepper and onion. Beat until mashed. Freeze option: Place cooled mashed potato mixture in a freezer container and freeze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Microwave, covered, on high in a microwave-safe bowl until heated through, stirring twice and adding a little milk if necessary.

3/4 cup hot milk
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Cut the potatoes into uniform two-inch chunks and place in a heavy saucepan along with the garlic. Cover with water, bring to a boil, lower heat to medium and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and garlic and mash the potatoes and garlic together. Stir in the hot milk, season to taste with salt and pepper and add the butter (less if desired) or oil. Serve at once.

3 1/2 pounds russet potatoes
2 tablespoons kosher salt
16 fluid ounces (2 cups) half-and-half
6 cloves garlic, crushed
6 ounces grated Parmesan

Steps:

  • Peel and dice potatoes, making sure all are relatively the same size. Place in a large saucepan, add the salt, and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and then reduce heat to maintain a rolling boil. Cook until potatoes fall apart when poked with a fork.
  • Heat the half-and-half and the garlic in a medium saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Remove the potatoes from the heat and drain off the water. Mash and add the garlic-cream mixture and Parmesan; stir to combine. Let stand for 5 minutes so that mixture thickens and then serve.
