1 pound ground beef
1 egg
¼ cup dry bread crumbs
1 onion, diced
1 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups water
¼ cup distilled white vinegar
3 tablespoons soy sauce

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs and onion. Mix thoroughly and shape into golf ball-sized balls.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, gently brown the meatballs and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, combine the brown sugar, flour, water, white vinegar and soy sauce. Mix thoroughly. Add meatballs and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, for 30 minutes.

1 1/2 lbs ground pork
2 eggs
1/2 cup almonds
1 cup breadcrumbs (1/2 oatmeal)
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 cup pineapple chunk
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup vinegar
3/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • MEATBALLS: Mix ingredients together. Roll into small balls. Fry.
  • SAUCE: Mix soy sauce, vinegar, white sugar and cornstarch together. Cook in double boiler until mixture thickens slightly. Add pineapple chunks. Pour over meatballs.

1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1 onion, chopped
1 cup dry bread crumbs
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup water
½ cup cider vinegar
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, egg, onion, bread crumbs, salt and pepper. Roll into meatballs about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in size.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the meatballs until browned on all sides.
  • In a separate medium bowl, mix together the water, vinegar, ketchup, cornstarch, sugar and soy sauce. Pour over the meatballs, and allow sauce to thicken. Continue to heat until the sauce just starts to bubble.

1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle chili sauce
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 cup grape jelly

  • In a large bowl, combine beef, egg, onion and salt. Mix together, then shape into little balls.
  • In a slow cooker combine chili sauce, lemon juice and grape jelly. Stir in meatballs and cook on high for 4 to 5 hours.

A family recipe (from my mother-in-law) for a unique twist on traditional meatballs. These are baked in a wonderful tomato-based sweet and sour sauce, which is delicious over rice! I doubled the original sauce recipe. We love extra sauce, and this recipe will make a lot.

1 ½ pounds ground beef
2 eggs
1 ½ cups bread crumbs
¼ cup finely chopped onion
¾ cup milk
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 cups ketchup
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 cups water
⅔ cup brown sugar
⅔ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix the ground beef, eggs, bread crumbs, onion, milk, salt, and black pepper together in a large mixing bowl until evenly combined. Form the mixture into 12 large meatballs. Arrange the meatballs into a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Stir the ketchup, tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, white sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and chili powder together in a saucepan over medium heat; cook and stir until well combined and hot, about 5 minutes. Pour the tomato sauce mixture over the meatballs in the baking dish. Turn the meatballs to coat in the sauce.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the meatballs are cooked through and no longer pink in the center, 60 to 90 minutes.

I was given this recipe by a friend many years ago. I was told it originally belonged to a woman who owned a modeling agency in Boston and had reason to entertain many in the fashion world. No matter how elegant a menu was being served, guests counted on these delicious meatballs being on the appetizer table. They always disappeared quickly then, and they disappear quickly now.

1 garlic clove, minced
2 lbs ground beef
2 eggs, lightly beaten
3 tablespoons chili sauce
2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
1 quart vegetable juice cocktail (32 ounces)
1 (1 lb) box light brown sugar
1 cup white vinegar
3 garlic cloves, halved
30 prunes, pitted

Steps:

  • Mash minced garlic with ground beef, eggs, chili sauce, parsley flakes, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Shape meatballs into 75 to 85 meatballs.
  • Combine vegetable juice, brown sugar, vinegar, garlic cloves and remaining pepper in a large sauce pot. Bring mixture to a boil.
  • Drop meatballs into the juice mixture. Reduce heat to low and cook 40 minutes. Add prunes and cook 20 minutes more.
  • Just a reminder: this recipe calls for a quart (32-ounces) of vegetable juice; if you buy the 46-ounce can, do not use the whole thing.
  • Drain off some, but not all, of the sauce before putting meatballs and prunes into a chafing dish. Serve hot with toothpicks.
  • It's best to make these a day ahead, then refrigerate them. When it is time to serve, skim off the fat on top of mixture and reheat.
  • To make 115 to 125 meatballs, increase meat mixture ingredients by half, leave the sauce ingredients as they are.

These meatballs are great! I came up with them on a whim one night while searching through my pantry trying to answer the age old question, 'What's for dinner?' My family LOVES these! I have also taken them to several BBQ's and they are ALWAYS a big hit! For dinner, I like to serve them with a side of steamed minute rice to go along with the meatballs. I hope you enjoy!

1 (15 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained with juice reserved
1 tablespoon soy sauce
⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup dark brown sugar

½ cup Italian dry bread crumbs
2 tablespoons dried minced onion

  • Mix the ground beef, egg, Worcestershire sauce, milk, bread crumbs, onion, salt, and pepper together in a bowl; form into 1-inch balls.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat; cook the meatballs in the hot skillet until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Place the meatballs into the slow cooker. Add the reserved pineapple chunks and green bell pepper.
  • Cover and cook until the meatballs are no longer pink in the center, about 1 hour.

2 pounds frozen meatballs
1 red bell pepper medium (cut into large pieces)
1 green bell pepper medium (cut into large pieces)
1 onion medium (cut into large pieces)
20 ounces pineapple chunks (1 can, undrained)
10 ounces sweet and sour sauce (1 bottle)
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
½ teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Place meatballs in the bottom of the Instant Pot. Top with the peppers, onions and undrained pineapple chunks.
  • In a small bowl, mix together sweet and sour sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic powder. Pour on top of meatballs and vegetables.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the knob to SEALING.
  • Push the PRESSURE COOK or MANUAL button and set the timer for 7 minutes.
  • When the timer is finished, turn the knob to VENTING to do a QUICK RELEASE of the pressure. Remove the lid and stir.
  • Serve over rice as a main dish or serve with toothpicks for a yummy appetizer.
