SAUSAGE AND CHEESE CRESCENT SQUARES

Sausage and two kinds of cheese turn crescent dough into a rich and tasty appetizer.

2 cans (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count) or 2 cans (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet
1 lb spicy or mild bulk pork sausage
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (8 oz)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • If using crescent rolls: Unroll 1 can of dough into 2 long rectangles. Place in ungreased 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish; press over bottom and 1/2 inch up sides to form crust.   • In 12-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium heat, stirring frequently, until no longer pink. Remove sausage from skillet; discard drippings. To same skillet, add cream cheese. Cook over low heat until melted. Add cooked sausage; stir to coat. Spoon evenly over crust in baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese.
  • If using crescent rolls: Unroll second can of dough on work surface. Press to form 13x9-inch rectangle; firmly press perforations to seal. Carefully place over cheese.   • Bake 21 to 26 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 15 minutes. Cut into small squares.

1 lb bulk Italian sausage
4 cups frozen potatoes O'Brien with onions and peppers (from 28-oz bag), thawed*
1 1/2 cups shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese (6 oz)
1 box (9 oz) frozen asparagus cuts, thawed**
4 eggs
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese (1/2 oz)

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 8-inch square (2-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. In 8-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink.
  • In baking dish, layer half of the thawed potatoes, half of the Colby-Monterey Jack cheese, the cooked sausage, thawed asparagus, remaining potatoes and cheese.
  • In medium bowl, beat eggs and milk until well blended. Pour evenly over potato mixture.
  • Cover tightly with foil; bake 1 hour. Uncover dish; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake uncovered 15 to 20 minutes longer or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand about 5 minutes before serving.

An easy 3-ingredient breakfast bake made with sausage, cream cheese, and crescent roll dough.

1 pound ground pork sausage
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
2 (8 oz) tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
green onions, for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 F. Spray or grease a 9 x 13 baking sheet or baking pan.
  • Brown sausage in a skillet. Drain. Stir in cream cheese until well mixed. Set aside.
  • Spread one roll of crescent dough out from edge to edge onto a non-stick baking sheet (or baking sheet coated with non-stick spray).
  • Top with sausage mixture, spreading it out evenly until ¼ in. from the edge.
  • Cover with the second sheet of crescent roll dough. Spread the dough out to cover the sausage and press to seal up the ends.
  • Bake uncovered until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Cut into squares. Garnish with green onions before serving, if desired.

Sunny's Sweet and Spicy Breakfast Sausage image

4 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed with a knife or mortar and pestle
1/4 teaspoon Hungarian paprika
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 pound ground chuck
1 teaspoon olive oil

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, fennel seed, paprika, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
  • Break the beef into chunks and add to a large bowl. Sprinkle the seasoning evenly over the top then with your hand gently mix the beef until the seasoning is evenly distributed. Divide the mixture into 8 even portions and roll gently into balls. Place back in the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Remove the sausage from the refrigerator and one by one place each ball between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Using a meat pounder, flatten out the sausage balls into 1/8-inch thick patties.
  • In a large saute pan or griddle over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and cook the sausage patties in batches. Sear on one side until caramelized and golden on the bottom, about 2 minutes, then flip to cook just a minute more on the other side.

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Unroll dough; place in an ungreased 13x9-in. baking dish. Press onto bottom and 1/2 in. up sides to form a crust. Top with sausage and cheese. Beat eggs in a bowl; add remaining ingredients. Carefully pour over cheese. , Bake, uncovered, at 425° for 20-25 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cut into 12 pieces.
