Originally from "Paradise on Ice" by Mittie Hellmich. "Four to six key limes produce about 3 ounces of key lime juice. If you can't find key limes, use 2 or 3 regular limes. This recipe serves two.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups cracked ice or 6 ice cubes
3 ounces gin
2 ounces orange liqueur
3 ounces fresh key lime juice
1/4 cup superfine sugar
2 lime slices (to garnish)

Steps:

Coat the rims of 2 chilled cocktail glasses with sugar. Chill until needed.
Fill a cocktail shaker with the ice. Add the gin, orange liqueur, lime juice and sugar. Shake vigorously to blend, and chill.
Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses, dividing it evenly. Decorate each rim with a lime wheel.

ice, as needed
½ fluid ounce vanilla-flavored vodka (such as Stoli®)
½ fluid ounce key lime juice
½ fluid ounce simple syrup
½ fluid ounce half-and-half

Steps:

Put enough ice cubes into a cocktail shaker to be about 3/4 full. Pour vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, and half-and-half over the ice cubes, shake, and strain into a martini glass.

For the rim of the martini glass: Mix together sugar and lime zest in a small flat plate. Wet the rim of a martini glass using the lime wedge. Dip into the sugar and lime zest mixture. Place the glass into the freezer as you make the drink.
To make the mint flavored simple syrup: Place fresh mint leaves and lime wedges in a large glass. Pour in the lime juice and simple syrup. Muddle until they are all combined*.
To make the drink: Place the ice, vodka, and orange liquor in a shaker. Strain the simple syrup mixture. Put the lid on and shake for 40 seconds. Take out the martini glass out of the freezer and pour the drink into the glass. Garnish with a lime twist, if preferred. Serve immediately.
