Copycat Cheryl & Co. Buttery Sugar Cookies image

These tasty little cookies melt in your mouth. They taste just like he Cheryl & Co. sugar cutouts, however these are made with a cookie press (much easier!!). So good!!

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
3 -4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup milk
desired food coloring

Steps:

  • In mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Put dough into cookie press with desired plate; form cookies onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes or until set, not brown (this part is important! DO NOT OVER COOK!). Cool on wire racks.
  • Beat together butter, vanilla and 2 cups powdered sugar in mixing bowl. Add milk. Continue adding sugar in 1/2 cup increments until desired consistency is reached. Add food coloring to all or a portion of frosting and frost cookies. Enjoy!

6 pounds tart apples
6 cups cider or apple juice
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoon s ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Steps:

  • Core and quarter unpared apples; cook in cider in large heavy saucepan till soft, about 30 minutes. Press through food mill. If you don't have food mill, use food processor on pulse and leave coarse like applesauce.
  • Boil gently 30 minutes; stir occasionally. Stir in sugar and spices. Cook and stir over low heat till sugar dissolves. Boil gently, stirring frequently, till desired thickness, about 1 hour. (I found it has always taken 2-3 hours).
  • Pour into 8 hot 1/2-pint jars; adjust lids and process in boiling water bath 10 minutes (start counting time after water returns to boil).

  • Cover and cook over medium heat for about 20-30 minutes, or until the apples and dates become so tender that they’re easy to mash. Once the mixture reaches this point, turn off the heat so you can mash or blend.
  • If you peeled your apples, you should be able to use the back of a wooden spoon or a potato masher to mash into a loose sauce. If your apples were unpeeled, you’ll need to use an immersion blender, food processor, or high-speed blender to pulverize the skins and turn the mixture into applesauce.
  • Once you have applesauce, it’s time to turn it into apple butter by cooking in the same pot over medium-low heat for ~1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, stirring every 8-10 minutes, until it thickens and caramelizes. NOTE: At the beginning of simmering, you’ll need to cover your pot partially with a tilted lid to avoid splattering while still allowing moisture to escape. As the liquid evaporates, you can uncover to allow steam to fully escape, which helps the mixture caramelize and thicken.
