ITALIAN SAUSAGE BISCUIT BAKE



Italian Sausage Biscuit Bake image

This recipe is a keeper because all the components of a great breakfast go into one dish, making the morning less hectic for the cook. My family says it reminds them of their favorite fast-food sandwich-only better, of course!-Amanda Denton, Barre, Vermont

Number Of Ingredients 9

1-1/4 pounds bulk Italian sausage
2 tubes (12 ounces each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits, divided
1-1/3 cups chopped sweet red peppers
8 large eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
1-1/2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 tablespoon butter
2 teaspoons dried oregano

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Arrange 10 biscuits in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Sprinkle sausage and red peppers over the biscuits. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk and parsley. Pour over sausage. Sprinkle with cheese., Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 20 minutes. Top with remaining biscuits. Brush biscuits with butter and sprinkle with oregano. Bake 15-20 minutes longer or until biscuits are golden brown and a knife inserted in the egg mixture comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

1 tube (12 ounces) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (10 count)
1 package (8 ounces) frozen fully cooked breakfast sausage links, thawed
2 large eggs, beaten
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons chopped green onions

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. Roll out each biscuit into a 5-in. circle; place each in an ungreased muffin cup. Cut sausages into fourths; brown in a skillet. Drain. Divide sausages among cups., In a small bowl, combine eggs, cheese and onions; spoon into cups. Bake until browned, 13-15 minutes.

These are similar to old-fashioned biscuits made from scratch, but they're even better thanks to the tasty sausage throughout. It's almost impossible to stop eating them. I like to serve these biscuits with an egg dish or soup. -Nancy Parker, Seguin, Texas

Number Of Ingredients 11

3/4 pound bulk pork sausage
2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
1 cup buttermilk
Melted butter

Steps:

  • In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain well and set aside. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt; cut in shortening until crumbly. Stir in the sausage. , In another bowl, dissolve yeast in water; let stand for 5 minutes. Add buttermilk. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. , On a lightly floured surface, gently knead dough 6-8 times. Roll out to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a 2 in. biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheets. , Brush tops with butter. Bake at 450° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

1 (16 ounce) package Jimmy Dean® Premium Pork Regular Sausage
1 cup milk
1 cup water
2 (2.75-ounce packages) sausage country gravy mix
1 (16 ounce) can refrigerated biscuit dough
½ cup dried cranberries

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Add sausage to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir with a spatula, breaking apart the sausage until cooked, 5 to 7 minutes. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside.
  • Whisk milk, water, and gravy mix together in the same saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the gravy reaches a boil and thickens, about 8 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in the crumbled sausage.
  • Tear biscuits into pieces. Spread 1/2 of the biscuit pieces in an even layer in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour the sausage and gravy mixture over the biscuits. Place the remaining biscuit pieces evenly on top. Sprinkle the dried cranberries over the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the biscuits are golden, about 20 minutes.
