I saw this recipe on a raw food lecture video. Although, I don't follow the raw food diet, I like some of the recipes. This one is good because it's dairy-free and sugar-free. I've also used kiwi in place of the berries with good results. (Prep. time doesn't includ soaking time.)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup almonds, soaked in water overnight
2 bananas
2 dates, pitted and chopped
1/2 cup blueberries or 1/2 cup strawberry, frozen is fine
1/2 cup water, to preferred consistency

Steps:

  • Drain and rinse almonds.
  • Put all ingredients in a blender. I put them in in order, and I never have a problem with the dates getting stuck in the bottom.
  • Pulse until the chunks are broken up. Then blend until smooth.
  • Makes 2 servings. I eat one serving, and save the other for the following day. The banana will cause some discoloration in the saved serving, but the taste is still good.

1 tablespoon almond butter
1 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 banana, sliced
2 scoops chocolate protein powder
1/2 cup iced coffee concentrate (such as Grady's) or 3/4 cup chilled regular coffee
1/4 cup almond milk, or regular low-fat milk
1 teaspoon honey (optional)

Steps:

  • Place ingredients in blender in the order listed and blend until smooth.

I was inspired to work on smoothie recipes this week when I defrosted a freezer and dredged out a half-filled bag of frozen berries. There was only one place for this lump of frozen berries - a rich smoothie. The key to the drink's flavor is the cinnamon. I always strain mixed berry smoothies because I don't like the texture of the little seeds, which don't blend up.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 heaping cup frozen mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries; about 6 ounces)
2/3 cup light coconut milk or almond milk
1/2 banana (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon soaked chia seeds (1 teaspoon dry; see note)
1 tablespoon fresh orange or tangerine juice
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, more to taste
1 teaspoon agave nectar or pomegranate molasses

Steps:

  • Place all of the ingredients in a blender and blend at high speed for 1 minute.
  • Place a strainer over a bowl and strain the smoothie to extract the little seeds from the raspberries and blackberries. Pour into a glass and serve.
