EASY & AUTHENTIC CUBAN PICADILLO



Easy & Authentic Cuban Picadillo image

Learn how to make flavorful and authentic Cuban picadillo at home with this simple 30-minute recipe. Made stovetop, it features ground beef, tomato sauce, select spices, olives, and raisins. Serve with rice for an easy weeknight dinner.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced green pepper
3-4 cloves garlic minced
1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup vino seco ((dry cooking wine))
6 ounces tomato sauce
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste ((start with 1/4 teaspoon then adjust from there))
1/4 cup Spanish olives cut in half
2 tablespoons raisins ((or more to taste) optional)

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions and green peppers and, sauté for 2-3 minutes or until softened. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds.
  • Next, add ground beef and cook, breaking the meat apart, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat down to medium-low.
  • Stir in cooking wine, tomato sauce, cumin, oregano, and, salt + pepper to taste. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until fragrant and saucy.
  • Remove from the heat. Stir in olives and raisins (if using). Serve with white rice. Enjoy!

1 lb hamburger must be 80/20 or better (can also use ground turkey)
1/4 c tomato sauce
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c chopped green pepper (bell pepper)
2 pinch oregano, dried
1 whole bay leaf
1/2 tsp cumin
1 Tbsp white vinegar
1 medium spanish onion (chopped)
1/2 c green sliced olives
1 medium tomato (chopped)
1 Tbsp powered garlic or 2 cloves (minced)
1 Tbsp oiive oil
salt to taste
black beans to top your picadillo
1 can(s) black beans
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 sliced green pepper
1/2 spanish onion sliced (like onion rings look)
1/2 tsp cumin
1 Tbsp garlic minced

Steps:

  • 1. Dice up onion, green pepper,and tomato's put in pan with 1 Tablespoon olive oil. when tender, add oregano,cumin tomato sauce bay leaf and stir well.
  • 2. Put heat on high and add hamburger as meat browns add raisins,olives,and cook until meat is done,(DO NOT STOP STIRRING)
  • 3. When meat is cooked add vineger. I serve mine with white rice and black beans.

1 clove garlic, minced, or more to taste
1 small onion, chopped
½ green bell pepper, chopped
1 pound lean ground beef
6 large pitted green olives, quartered
½ cup raisins
1 tablespoon capers
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 (1.41 ounce) packages sazon seasoning (such as Goya®)
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon white sugar
salt to taste

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir garlic, onion, and green bell pepper in the hot oil until softened, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Crumble ground beef into the skillet; cook and stir until browned completely, 7 to 10 minutes.
  • Stir olives, raisins, capers, tomato sauce, sazon seasoning, cumin, sugar, and salt through the ground beef mixture.
  • Cover the skillet, reduce heat to low, and cook until the mixture is heated through, 5 to 10 minutes.

I used to love eating Picadillo when I lived in Key West many years ago. Found this recipe in the paper so I can now enjoy this again. I don't eat beef so I use ground turkey breast instead. Easy quick little dinner.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb lean ground beef or 1 lb ground turkey breast
1 1/4 cups water
2 1/2 cups chunky salsa, divided (mild or medium)
1 (15 ounce) can rinsed and drained black beans
1 cup quick cook brown rice
1 cored peeled and chopped apple (about 1/2 inch dice)
12 stuffed Spanish olives, sliced
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup slivered almonds

Steps:

  • Cook beef or turkey on medium heat in a large non-stick skillet for 5 minutes or until no longer pink; drain well.
  • Meanwhile, combine water, 1 cup salsa and beans in a 3 quart pan.
  • Bring to a boil over medium high heat.
  • Add rice.
  • Stir, cover and reduce heat to low.
  • Cook 10 minutes and remove from heat.
  • To cooked meat, add remaining 1 1/2 cups salsa, apple, olives, cinnamon and raisins.
  • Cover and cook for 7 minutes or until apples are softened and mixture is heated through.
  • Serve picadillo with rice and beans mixture.
  • Garnish with slivered almonds.

3 pounds ground beef
½ onion, chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 cups raisins
2 (8 ounce) jars green olives, drained and chopped
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
½ cup water
½ bunch cilantro

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat until crumbly and no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Pour off any excess grease, then stir in the onion and garlic; cook for 2 minutes before adding the red pepper, green pepper, raisins, olives, tomato paste, water, and cilantro. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 10 minutes, or until the peppers have cooked to your liking.

Simmer the Picadillo over low heat for 30-35 minutes, to let the flavors combine. then serve over hot rice. Delish!!!
  • Using the sauté setting on the Instant Pot, let the pot preheat a bit, then add the ground beef, crumbling it; add the bell pepper, onion, and garlic, browning the beef until it is cooked throughout and the veggies are softened; drain any excess fats from the pot. Stir in remaining ingredients, not including the rice. Lock the Instant Pot lid into place, choosing the high pressure setting for 3 minutes, bringing the Instant Pot to full pressure. When the timer sounds, use a natural release for 5 minutes, then a quick release to remove remaining pressure from the Instant Pot. Carefully unlock and remove the Instant Pot lid, giving the Picadillo a gentle stir. Serve at once over bowls of warm rice.
  • Bring 2 1/4 cups of water or broth and 1 Tbs. unsalted butter or olive oil to a boil; stir in 1 1/2 cups RINSED jasmine or basmati rice. Lock the Instant Pot lid into place, choosing the high pressure setting for 3 minutes bringing the Instant Pot to full pressure. When the timer sounds, use a natural release for 1 minute followed by a quick release to remove any remaining pressure from the Instant Pot. Carefully unlock and remove the Instant Pot lid, fluffing the hot rice with a fork. Yield: approx. 3 cups cooked rice.
