PEAR-ROSEMARY VODKA COCKTAILS



Pear-Rosemary Vodka Cocktails image

Making homemade flavored vodka takes only a little effort but produces impressive results. The pear-spiked liquor can be stored at room temperature for up to two months, but needs at least two weeks to infuse the fruit's flavor, so plan ahead.

6 to 8 small firm pears, such as Seckel
4 cups vodka
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
12 sprigs fresh rosemary, plus more for garnish
1 1/2 cups pear nectar (12 ounces), chilled
4 cups sparkling water, chilled
Ice cubes

Steps:

  • Place enough pears in a 56-ounce glass jar to fill to the top. Add vodka. Seal jar, and let stand at room temperature for at least 2 weeks. Strain vodka, and discard pears.
  • Heat sugar and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves. Add rosemary. Remove from heat, and let stand for 30 minutes. Discard rosemary. Let cool completely.
  • Combine vodka, rosemary simple syrup, pear nectar, and sparkling water in a large pitcher. Divide among 8 ice-filled glasses, and garnish each with a rosemary sprig. Serve immediately.

1 ripe pear
juice 1 lemon
75ml vodka
25ml hazelnut liqueur (I used Frangelico)
handful of ice
500ml pressed pear juice

Steps:

  • Put the pear through a spiralizer to create long spaghetti-like strands. If you don't have a spiralizer, slice the pear into thin ribbons with a vegetable peeler, then cut the ribbons into thinner strips.
  • Line up 4 tumblers and put 3-4 strands of pear in each one. Divide the lemon juice between the glasses to coat the pear strands and stop them discolouring while you make the cocktail.
  • Pour the vodka and hazelnut liqueur into a cocktail shaker. Add a handful of ice and shake until the outside of the cocktail shaker starts to frost, then strain into the glasses. Top with the pressed pear juice divided between the 4 glasses.

I have a friend who gifted me with around 100 pears. I had to do something with them all and I made this recipe for a pear flavored vodka. Very smooth.

2 cups pears, diced
1 cup vodka
2 tablespoons brandy
1/2 cup granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Place fruit in clear 1 quart jar. Stir in vodka and brandy and sugar. Marinate, covered, for several weeks in a cool, dark place. Shake when you remember. (I tasted mine after 2 weeks).
  • Strain through a fine sieve lined with cheesecloth.
  • Pour into sterilized bottles.
