No-Bake Twinkie Cake (+Video) image

Twinkie Cake is a no-bake dessert that is a cross between a banana split and a shortcake. Layers of Twinkies, bananas, pudding and Cool Whip!

1 box Twinkies
4 bananas, (peeled and sliced)
20 ounce can crushed pineapple, (drained well)
3 ounce box INSTANT vanilla pudding
2 cups cold milk
8 ounce tub whipped topping (COOL WHIP), (thawed)
maraschino cherries and chopped nuts, (for topping)

Steps:

  • Remove Twinkies from the wrappers. You'll use about 7 Twinkies. Slice them in half.
  • Place sliced Twinkies in a 9x13-inch pan, cream side up.
  • Next, layer sliced bananas on top of Twinkies.
  • Spread the crushed pineapples on top of the bananas.
  • In a separate bowl, combine instant pudding mix with 2 cups of cold milk.
  • Whisk it together until combined and allow it to thicken slightly. It should take 3-5 minutes. It should be thickened but pourable.
  • Pour pudding over crushed pineapple. Spread out until evenly coated.
  • Next, spread the whipped topping over the pudding layer.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts on top of cake.
  • Drain a few maraschino cherries on a paper towel. Then, place a few cherries on top.
  • Cover and store cake in the fridge. Let it set for about an hour before serving.

It was too late to go to the store, so I began looking for substitutes and used some of the Twinkies I had on hand. Twinkies gave the dessert a distinctive taste, and I've never gone back to the old recipe!" Cook time is chill time and is approximate.

1 (6 ounce) package blueberry Jello gelatin
3 cups boiling water
1 (16 ounce) bag frozen blueberries
1 (6 ounce) package strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert
1 (16 ounce) bag frozen sliced strawberries in syrup
6 Hostess Twinkies, torn into 1-inch pieces
2 (5 1/8 ounce) packages vanilla instant pudding mix
6 cups milk
1 (12 ounce) container frozen non-dairy topping, thawed

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine the blueberry Jell-O and 1 1/2 cups of the boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  • Add the blueberries and stir until blended and slightly thickened.
  • Allow to cool completely.
  • In another bowl, combine the strawberry Jell-O and remaining 1 1/2 cups boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  • Add the strawberries and stir until blended and slightly thickened.
  • Allow to cool completely.
  • Place half of the Twinkle pieces in a 6-quart glass bowl or trifle dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the pudding mix and milk and stir according to the package instructions.
  • Spoon half of the pudding over the Twinkies.
  • Spoon the blueberry mixture over the pudding, spreading evenly.
  • Top with the remaining Twinkie pieces.
  • Spoon the remaining pudding over the Twinkles, spreading evenly.
  • Spoon the strawberry mixture over the pudding, spreading evenly.
  • Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight, until completely chilled and set.
  • Top with the whipped topping just before serving.

  • Slice twinkies lengthwise, halfway up from bottom.
  • Place 1 or 2 tsp of cool whip on bottom half.
  • cover with strawberries and blueberries.
  • Place 1 more tsp cool whip on top.
  • cover with top half of twinkie.
  • May be served cut in half or full length.

I found this recipe on a Facebook blog site named Very Culinary and made it to take to a dinner party. It was a hit. Every body loved it and were shocked when they found out what one of the main ingredients was.

10 Hostess Twinkies
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon vinegar
9 inches deep dish pie shells
whipped cream (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Unwrap all the twinkles.
  • Cut each one in half lengthwise and then cut horizontally in 3 to make each twinkie 6 pieces.
  • In a large bowl whisk the eggs, butter, sugar, vanilla and vinegar until well combined.
  • Gently fold in twinkie pieces with a spatula.
  • Mixture will be thick.
  • Pour into the pie shell which is in a pie pan.
  • Place pie pan on a cookie sheet to prevent spill overs.
  • Bake for 40 minutes or until set and the top is golden.
  • Let cool, slice and serve garnished with whipped cream.

3 large eggs, seperated
1 pinch cream of tartar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 ounces chocolate chips, semisweet
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Steps:

  • Grease pyrex square or rectangular casserole with butter.
  • Cut 8 Twinkies in thirds lengthwise, and put one layer on the bottom of the casserole. Beat egg whites, with the cream of tartar and sugar, adding vanilla.
  • Melt chocolate chips in the top of a doubleboiler.
  • Add egg yolks to chocolate, slowly, continuing to stir overboiling water.
  • Fold chocolate into egg whites.
  • Spread over Twinkies, then sprinkle with about half of the nuts.
  • Layer on more twinkies, more chocolate, more nuts.
  • Continue layering.
  • Top with whipped cream and a single whole Twinkie. Chill and serve.
