Scalloped Potatoes & Ham image

With a creamy flavorful sauce, chunks of ham, and sliced potatoes, this main dish has become a tried and true family favorite recipe.

6 tablespoons of butter, divided
1/4 cup flour
1 tsp dried parsley flakes
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1/4 tsp pepper
1-2 tsp minced onion
3 cups milk
6 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 5 medium-large potatoes)
1.5 cups cooked ham, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Stir in flour, parsley, salt, thyme, pepper, and minced onion until smooth. Gradually add milk and bring to a boil over medium heat. Whisk to keep smooth. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
  • In a greased 2.5 quart casserole dish, layer potatoes and ham with sauce spooned over. Repeat layers (usually 3-4). Top with the remaining sauce.
  • Cover and bake for 65-75 minutes or until potatoes are almost tender. Dot with remaining butter and bake, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes longer or until potatoes are fully tender.

1 small onion, finely chopped (1/4 cup)
3 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 1/2 cups milk
6 medium peeled or unpeeled potatoes, thinly sliced (6 cups)
1 1/2 cups cubed fully cooked ham

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 2-quart casserole with cooking spray.
  • In 2-quart saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat. Cook onion in butter about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbly; remove from heat. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  • Mix potatoes and ham in casserole; gently press down so surface is even. Pour sauce over potato mixture. Cut remaining 1 tablespoon butter into small pieces; sprinkle over potatoes.
  • Cover and bake 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes longer or until potatoes are tender. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving (sauce thickens as it stands).

½ cup butter
1 onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups diced ham

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add sliced potatoes and cook until almost tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a colander and rinse with cold water until cool enough to handle. Drain well.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir until tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in flour, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper; cook for 1 minute. Gradually pour in milk, stirring constantly until sauce is thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in Cheddar cheese until melted.

Another blast from the past we used to have this on our menu at least once a week when I was at home. Didn't think about them until just yesterday and all of a sudden I thought what am I going to have for dinner and this is what I came up with.

3 large potatoes (peeled and sliced very thin)
1 small onion (diced)
1 c ham (diced)
6 Tbsp flour
Dash salt and pepper
2 c milk, whole
1 c shedded cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Peel and slice potatoes ( ( (l soak them in water while I am dicing the onion and ham.)
  • 2. Spray casserole dish with cooking spray. Drain potatoes well and pat dry.
  • 3. Start assembling layers beginning with a layer of potatoes top with a layer of onion, then a layer a ham sprinkle 2 tablespoons flour over them and dash of salt and pepper and a little bit of cheese.
  • 4. Repeat with a second layer and the third pour milk over all it should be almost covering the potatoes not quite.
  • 5. Cover, bake at 350 degrees for about an hour and 45 minutes remove cover and cook another 15 minutes. Let's set about 15 minutes before serving.
