Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings Recipe image

Learn How to Make the BEST Baked Chicken Wings in the Oven. This Hot Wings Recipe (and Easy Hot Wing Sauce Recipe) is utterly irresistible!

Provided by Sommer Collier

Categories     Appetizer     Snack

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 8

2.5-3 pounds trimmed chicken wings ((often called party wings))
2 teaspoons baking powder ((aluminum-free))
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
5 ounces cayenne pepper sauce ((Frank's RedHot Original))
5 tablespoons butter
3 1/2 tablespoons honey

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Set a baking rack on a large rimmed baking sheet. Spray the rack with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Use paper towels to thoroughly squeeze and dry every single wing. The drier the wings are, the crispier they will get.
  • In a large bowl, mix the baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add the wings to the bowl and toss to coat. Lay the wings on the baking rack, making sure they do not touch.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Then use tongs to flip the wings. Bake another 15-20 until very brown and crispy.
  • Meanwhile, set a small saucepot over medium heat. Add the cayenne pepper sauce, butter, and honey. Once the butter has fully melted, whisk into a smooth sauce, then turn off the heat.
  • Once the chicken wings come out of the oven, move them to a large bowl and pour the hot wing sauce over the top. Toss to coat. Serve warm!

Categories     Chicken Wings     Party Food

Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 17

4 lb / 2kg chicken wings, wingettes & drumettes ((Note 1))
5 teaspoons baking powder ((NOT baking soda / bi-carb soda) (Note 2))
3/4 teaspoons salt
4 tbsp (60g) unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup Frank's Original Red Hot Sauce ((Note 3))
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese, softened ((I use gorgonzola))
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 clove small garlic, minced
1 - 3 tbsp milk
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
Black pepper
Celery sticks
Lots of beer!

Steps:

  • If you plan ahead, lay the wings on a rack on a rimmed baking tray and let them dry uncovered in the fridge overnight. Alternatively, pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Preheat the oven to 250°F/120°C (all oven types). Put one oven shelf in the lower quarter of the oven and one in the top quarter.
  • Line the tray with foil. Spray the rack on the baking tray with oil.
  • Place the wings in a large bowl. Sprinkle over baking powder and salt. Use hands to toss well (or shake in ziplock bag) to coat wings evenly.
  • Place the wings skin side up on the rack (ok if snug, they shrink). Bake on the lower shelf in the oven for 30 minutes.
  • Then move the tray up to the higher shelf and turn the oven up to 425°F / 220°C. Bake for a further 40 to 50 minutes, rotating the tray halfway through. The wings do not need to be turned over.
  • The wings are ready when they are dark golden brown and the skin is very crispy.
  • Toss with Hot Sauce and serve immediately with Blue Cheese Dip and celery sticks. They can be served plain, with a dipping sauce or tossed in sauce. Wings also reheat crispy!
  • Whisk together the Sauce ingredients. Keep warm or reheat just prior to using.
  • Mash the blue cheese with sour cream until smooth (or to your taste).
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well until combined, using milk to get it to the consistency you want.
  • Store in the fridge until required. Remove from the fridge 15 minutes before serving.

BAKED BUFFALO WINGS

Baked Buffalo Wings image

These easy to make hot wings are crispy without being fried. Always yummy to snack on. They only take 10 minutes for prep, but need to be refrigerated for about an hour so the flour coating is firm. You can add more cayenne or use a higher hot sauce to butter ratio if you like them spicier! Enjoy.

Categories     Appetizers and Snacks     Spicy

Time 2h

Yield 20

Number Of Ingredients 7

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
20 chicken wings
½ cup melted butter
½ cup hot pepper sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®)

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and lightly grease with cooking spray. Place the flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and salt into a resealable plastic bag, and shake to mix. Add the chicken wings, seal, and toss until well coated with the flour mixture. Place the wings onto the prepared baking sheet, and place into the refrigerator. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce in a small bowl. Dip the wings into the butter mixture, and place back on the baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven until the chicken is no longer pink in the center, and crispy on the outside, about 45 minutes. Turn the wings over halfway during cooking so they cook evenly.

This blazing hot wing recipe is an alternative to deep-fried wings. They are baked instead of fried and stay juicy rather than crisp. I started making these about 5 years ago and they were an instant hit. I am always asked to bring the wings for all the parties we are invited to now.
