We've been making this recipe for over twenty years. It was a favorite potluck appetizer recipe shared by a previous co-worker.

2 cans shrimp
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, plus
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon horseradish
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 teaspoons dill weed

Steps:

  • Make one day ahead.
  • Let cream cheese rest at room temperature until soft.
  • Mash all ingredients together (a potato masher works great).
  • Chill before serving, at least one day.

1 (4 ounce) can shrimp, chopped
1 can water chestnut, chopped (whatever the usual size is)
3 tablespoons green onions, chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise (REAL)
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 dashes Tabasco sauce

Steps:

  • Mix together all ingredient and chill.
  • Serve with crackers or eat with fingers.

This recipe came in an e-mail newsletter I get and I couldn't believe it. My mom used to make it for just about every party she ever had. So this is a 70's recipe. I don't know that there is such a thing as a 14.5oz can of shrimp, but I am leaving this recipe true to my memory. I have no idea why it is called Fireside, but I am going with it. As the newsleter said "It's a perfect idea when you are having people over who are not real open to new-fangled ideas on food. It's straight-forward and wonderful."

1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese
1 (4 1/2 ounce) can baby shrimp
1/2 medium onion, diced small
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
cracker

Steps:

  • Hand grate the cheese. Use a medium-sized grate so you have some nice-sized shreds.
  • Dice onion, whatever size you like.
  • Rinse and drain shrimp. (can also use frozen cooked shrimp diced up about 1/2lb, I do).
  • Add the shrimp and onion to the cheese along with the mayonnaise and the Worcestershire sauce. Stir until blended.
  • Find a decorative bowl to serve this in as it's pretty plain looking otherwise.
  • Set out a spreader or spoon so guests can mound the dip on a cracker.

1 (8 -12 ounce) carton sour cream
1 (6 1/2 ounce) can chopped clams (drained)
6 -8 ounces frozen baby shrimp (thawed, rinsed, and drained)

  • Mix dry vegetable soup mix and sour cream together.
  • Add clams and shrimp, mix well.
  • For best flavor, fridge overnight.
  • Serve with vegetable sticks, chips, or crackers.
