GREAT GRANDMA'S PASTA SAUCE

Great Grandma's Pasta Sauce image

If you want to taste what the Italians are so blessed with over in Italy, I suggest you give this pasta sauce a try. You won't ever go back to your plain 'ol marinara that you thought was good. This sauce here is beyond genuine and you will love it!

1 pound ground beef
1 chopped small onion
3 crushed cloves of garlic
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 (12 ounces) can of Hunt's Tomato Paste.

2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup red wine

  • Add chopped onions to the meat mixture and continue cooking. Stir occasionally until onions are softened.
  • Next, add your diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato sauce.
  • Next, mix in the spices, sugar, and garlic.
  • Once your sauce is cooking (bring to a boil), add your wine and water.
  • Simmer on low (stir often) for an hour.
  • Optional: Let it simmer for an additional 3-4 hours, just to let the flavors combine even more.

MY GRANDMA'S SPAGHETTI SAUCE RECIPE - (4.5/5)

My Grandma's Spaghetti Sauce Recipe - (4.5/5) image

Provided by corvettemary

Number Of Ingredients 11

1-1/2 to 2 pounds chicken thighs, w/skin & bones
1-1/2 pounds ground chuck or 90% hamburger
1 pound hot Italian sausage bulk or in a tube (sometimes I get the large link and slice it)
1 large onion
7-8 garlic cloves, diced
1 quart tomatoes, stewed or diced
1 small can tomato paste
2 small cans tomato sauce
2 small cans sliced mushrooms
2 T. Italian seasoning
1 t. black pepper

Steps:

  • In large pot simmer chicken in 3-4 quarts of water for about 1 hour. Add water if needed. Remove chicken and set aside. In a separate frying pan, brown hamburger, onions, garlic and sausage until meat is no longer pink. Add to water in chicken stock pot, do not drain grease. Add tomatoes, tomato paste & sauce, mushrooms and seasoning. Simmer for about 45 minutes. Cut chicken off of bones. Discard bones and skin. Cut chicken into bite sized pieces and return to sauce pot. Skim off grease and cook down to desired thickness/consistency.

MY GRANDMA'S SPAGHETTI SAUCE

My Grandma's Spaghetti Sauce image

As this old-fashioned spaghetti sauce simmers on your stove all day it will make your house smell amazing. This sauce is thick and full of meat. Fresh onions and bell peppers cook down to almost nothing but add so much flavor. There's just enough Italian seasoning added to the sauce. We chose to use one spicy sausage and one...

GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma's Homemade Spaghetti Sauce image

I got this recipe from my Grandmother. It's a basic tomato sauce that can have many things added to it to be more elaborate. Try it and let me know what you've done to make it your own!!! PS I've found that the best canned tomato products are Target's brand, I highly recommend using them!

Provided by Samantha Price

Categories     Other Sauces

Time 4h30m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 can(s) crushed tomatos (recommend target brand)
1 can(s) tomato puree (recommend target brand)
1 can(s) water
2 can(s) small cans of tomato paste (recommend target brand)
2 Tbsp oregano, dried
1 Tbsp parsley, italian
3 Tbsp garlic powder
1 sprig(s) bay leaf
1 medium onion, whole (skin removed, top and bottom sliced flat)
1 Tbsp basil, dried
1 dash(es) ginger
3 clove garlic
1 dash(es) extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. Pour the cans of crushed tomatoes, tomato puree and tomato paste into a large stockpot. Fill up the empty puree can with water and add to stockpot.
  • 2. Cut ends of onion & peel. Put in stockpot whole.
  • 3. Put stockpot on stove & turn on high. You will want the sauce to just begin boiling and then you can turn it down to low.
  • 4. Add rest of ingredients while sauce is heating up. Stir well once everything is added.
  • 5. Sauce will thicken as you cook it. The longer you cook it, the thicker it will get.
  • 6. I will often divide the sauce up into freezer bags or stackable tupperware and put into the freezer for easy dinners at a later date.
  • 7. I recommend adjusting the herbs to your own taste. This does not taste anything like a canned sauce! However, it is very healthy! Add meat, more garlic, veggies, cheese, cream, etc for each specific meal. Let me know what you've tried and what you think of the sauce!! Thank you!

GRANDMA MAGGIO'S SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma Maggio's Spaghetti Sauce image

This is one that was recited to me out of memory alone, and described as a hand of garlic, etc., though the ingredient quantities should be accurate. I encourage buying the cheapest versions of these ingredients you can find; it will feed an army for about $15 without ruining the taste. You should add more seasonings based on preference. A great vegetarian sauce, and with meatballs...it makes great meatball sandwiches.

Time 55m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 whole head garlic, peeled and chopped
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
½ cup chopped fresh basil leaves, or to taste
1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
¾ cup Merlot wine
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons dried oregano
¼ cup white sugar

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat, and cook and stir the onion and garlic until translucent but not browned, 6 to 7 minutes. Stir in the mushrooms and basil, and cook and stir until the basil is wilted and the mushrooms are cooked through and have given up their juices, about 10 minutes.
  • Pour in the whole peeled tomatoes, and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring and chopping the tomatoes into pieces with a spoon. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir, crushing any large pieces of tomato left, and bring to a simmer. Let the sauce simmer until slightly thickened and bubbling, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes.
  • Stir the tomato paste into the sauce, and fill the empty tomato paste can with Merlot wine, stirring to dissolve any remaining tomato paste in the can. Pour the Merlot wine into the sauce, and stir well to combine. Bring the sauce back to a simmer, and stir in the salt, pepper, dried oregano, and sugar. Let the sauce simmer until the seasonings are blended and the sauce is heated through, about 3 more minutes.

This is a recipe my grandma made for years and she never wrote it down until I was learning how to make it. It is a sweet meat sauce. I love it and just wanted to share it with everyone else. Let me know what you think. This recipe makes a lot of sauce. I usually put 4 cups in a resealable plastic bag and freeze for later use.

GRANDMA ROSIE'S EXTRA SMOOTH SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma Rosie's Extra Smooth Spaghetti Sauce image

A mild sweet, super smooth pasta sauce that has become a family favorite! Makes a great sauce for meatballs. I recommend adding them and letting the entire pot simmer and meld. And remember, the bay leaf is lucky!
